Zy Q 200 mg Tablet is an antimalarial medication. It is used to treat or prevent malaria (an illness caused by parasites that spread through the bite of infected mosquitoes).
Zy Q 200 mg Tablet is also used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (a chronic condition that involves swelling and pain in the small joint) and systemic lupus erythematosus (a chronic inflammatory condition that occurs when your immune system attacks the body causing skin rash, joint pain, and tiredness).
Zy Q 200 mg Tablet shows some side effects like headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, stomach pain, etc. These side effects may subside by themselves. However, consult your doctor if they bother you for a long time or worsen.
Zy Q 200 mg Tablet is a prescription medicine. Take this medicine with food to avoid stomach upset. Your doctor may determine the dose and duration of treatment based on your clinical condition. What is it prescribed for?
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a condition that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks the joints, causing pain and swelling. Zy Q 200 mg Tablet is used in the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder where your immune system attacks its healthy tissue. It can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, and other organs. Zy Q 200 mg Tablet is used for the treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
Malaria is an illness caused by the bite of an infected mosquito. The symptoms include high fever, chills, a feeling of discomfort, vomiting, muscle pain, etc. Zy Q 200 mg Tablet is used to treat or prevent malaria. It is not effective against all strains of malaria, or against malaria in areas where the infection has been resistant to a similar medicine called Chloroquine.
When not to use?
Avoid taking Zy Q 200 mg Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any worsening of symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Maculopathy, also known as macular degeneration, is an eye condition that affects the macula, an area in the centre of the retina that is responsible for sharp, detailed, central vision. Zy Q 200 mg Tablet is not recommended for use if you have pre-existing maculopathy as it may further worsen your condition.
Warnings for special population
Zy Q 200 mg Tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy as it may harm the developing foetus. Hence, consult your doctor if you are pregnant.
Zy Q 200 mg Tablet is not recommended for use while breastfeeding unless necessary. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
Zy Q 200 mg Tablet may increase the risk of hearing problems such as ringing in the ears, reduced hearing, etc., if used in high doses for a prolonged time. Hence, it should be used with extreme caution if you have pre-existing hearing problems. Consult your doctor immediately if you develop other hearing defects or if hearing loss becomes worse.
Driving or operating machines
Zy Q 200 mg Tablet may cause blurred vision, eye discomfort, or visual disturbances in some cases. Hence, avoid driving vehicles and operating machines if you experience such symptoms.
Myasthenia gravis is a condition that causes severe weakness and fatigue of the muscles under voluntary control. Zy Q 200 mg Tablet should be used with caution if you have myasthenia gravis as it may further aggravate your condition.
Zy Q 200 mg Tablet should be used with caution if you have kidney problems as it may cause an accumulation of this medicine in the body and increase the risk of undesired effects. Your doctor may recommend dose adjustments based on your clinical condition.
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency is an inherited condition in which the body doesn’t have enough of an enzyme called G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase). This deficiency may cause the red blood cells to break down prematurely. Zy Q 200 mg Tablet should be used with caution if you have G-6-PD deficiency as it may cause further destruction of red blood cells and kidney problems. Your doctor may suggest tests to monitor your blood cell counts and haemoglobin levels periodically during treatment with this medicine.
Avoid missing a scheduled dose of Zy Q 200 mg Tablet. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.
Do not take more than the prescribed dose of Zy Q 200 mg Tablet. Seek immediate medical attention in case of an overdose.
Take Zy Q 200 mg Tablet as instructed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than the prescribed dose.
