Meftal 250 DT

Meftal 250 DT contains Mefenamic acid which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which works by stopping the body’s production of a substance that causes pain, fever, and inflammation. It is used to treat mild to moderate pain conditions such as dental pain, headache, muscle pain, joint pain, menstrual pain (primary dysmenorrhea) and pain after childbirth. The dose and duration will depend on what you are taking it for and how well it helps your symptoms.

Mefenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Always take MEFTAL DT 250MG exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have or had gastrointestinal disorders, asthma, epilepsy, liver, kidney or heart problems. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers consult your doctor before taking this medicine. It is not suitable for children and adolescents below 12 years of age. The common side effects are vomiting, stomach pain, nausea, headache, and dizziness.

HOW Meftal 250 DT WORKS

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take MEFTAL DT 250MG exactly as your doctor has told you. Swallow as a whole, with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Apply a wet or cold cloth to forehead and rest in a quiet, comfortable, dark room.

Constipation:

Eat fruits, vegetables whole grains and fiber rich foods.

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take naps and give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Nausea or vomiting:

Stick to regular meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Stomach pain:

Place a warm water bottle on your abdomen. Drink plenty of clear fluids and water.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
Meftal 250 DT should not be taken in the last three months of pregnancy, as this may prolong its duration and delay the onset of labour. Consult your doctor before taking.

BREASTFEEDING
MEFTAL DT 250MG may pass into breast milk and can affect the baby, hence it should be used with caution in breastfeeding mothers. Consult your doctor for advice.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or handle any machines if you experience drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness or any vision problems.

ALCOHOL
Do not consume alcohol while taking this medicine as it may irritate the stomach and make some side effects worse.

KIDNEY
MEFTAL DT 250MG is not recommended in patients with kidney failure and caution should be followed in patients with kidney disease, dose will be adjusted if needed. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
MEFTAL DT 250MG is not recommended in patients with liver failure and caution should be followed in patients with liver disease, dose will be adjusted if needed. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Mefenamic acid.

HEART DISEASE
MEFTAL DT 250MG is not recommended in patients with severe heart failure or had heart bypass surgery. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Tell your physician if you have or had,

Inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
History of gastrointestinal conditions
History of asthma
Epilepsy
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

Aspirin, ibuprofen and celecoxib, diclofenac (treats pain)
Prednisolone
Warfarin and clopidogrel (used to thin blood)
Paroxetine, lithium (treats depression)
Atenolol, ramipril, valsartan (treats blood pressure)
Digoxin, diltiazem, sotalol (treats heart conditions)
Glibenclamide, glipizide (treats diabetes)
Ciclosporin, methotrexate, tacrolimus (used to suppress the immune system)
Mifepristone
Quinolone or aminoglycoside antibiotics (treats infections)
Zidovudine (used for HIV)
