Rabifast-XL Capsule belongs to a group of combination medication called gastrointestinal agents used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Gastroesophageal reflux disease occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus), thereby causing hyperacidity, stomach pain and heartburn.

Rabifast-XL Capsule is a combination of two drugs: Levosulpiride (prokinetic agent) and Rabeprazole (proton pump inhibitor). Levosulpiride works by increasing the inferior oesophageal (food pipe) sphincter pressure, thereby preventing backflow of food and acid into the mouth. Rabeprazole works by blocking the action of an enzyme called gastric proton pump, which is responsible for acid production. Together, Rabifast-XL Capsule helps in preventing acid reflux, thereby provides relief from acidity and heartburn.

Take Rabifast XL Capsule 1-hour prior food. Swallow Rabifast XL Capsule as a whole with a glass of water; do not chew, or break it. You are advised to take Rabifast XL Capsule for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea, flatulence, constipation, headache, dizziness, weakness, sleepiness, flu-like symptoms. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.

Inform your doctor before taking Rabifast XL Capsule if you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or intestinal obstruction. On long term treatment, Rabifast XL Capsule may cause osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist, spine, and hypomagnesemia (low magnesium levels). Do not take Rabifast XL Capsule if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Rabifast XL Capsule should not be given to children as safety have not been established. RabifastXL Capsule may cause drowsiness and dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. Food-Drug Interactions: Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption. Alcohol intake leads to increased production of stomach acid, thereby increases acidity and heartburn. RabifastXL Capsule may have interaction with St.John’s wort (herbal supplement used to treat depression). 

Drug-Disease Interaction: RabifastXL Capsule may have interactions with gastrointestinal bleeding, intestinal obstruction, pheochromocytoma (tumour of the adrenal gland), epilepsy, mania, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD), liver disease, bone fractures, hypomagnesemia (low levels of magnesium).
