Billargic Oral Solution (Bilastine 2.5mg)

Description

Billargic Oral Solution is an antihistamine medicine used widely to relieve allergic symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, redness of the nose, watery eyes, itching, and rash. It stops the action of a natural substance called histamine produced in your body during an allergic reaction.

Bilastine is available as a tablet, orodispersible tablet (tablets that dissolve in the mouth) and syrup on prescription. The tablet form is used in adolescents and adults above 12 years of age, whereas orodispersible tablets and syrup are used in children aged 6 to 11 years.

The common side effects of Billargic Oral Solution are headache, dizziness, nausea etc. Do not drive or operate machinery that requires high mental alertness after taking this medicine. If you notice any severe side effects, consult your doctor immediately.

Taking this medicine with food or juice can lower its effects. Therefore, you can take Billargic Oral Solution on an empty stomach or half an hour before or two hours after a meal.

Billargic Oral Solution is only recommended when there are allergic symptoms and use it only for the prescribed period. Consult your doctor if you do not see any improvement in your symptoms after treatment.

Before taking Billargic Oral Solution, tell your doctor if you have any medical condition like liver, kidney or heart disease. Your doctor should also be aware of any other medications that you are taking because many of them may reduce or alter the efficacy of this medicine. If you are pregnant or nursing, you are recommended to consult your doctor before using this medication.

Hay Fever
Hay fever or allergic rhinitis is a common disease that arises as a result of the body’s response to external factors such as allergens. The body’s defence system (immune system) produces a response by releasing antibodies to the allergens or foreign substances. Allergens are usually harmless and may cause a minimal allergic response in your body. Billargic Oral Solution is used to treat symptoms of hay fever such as sneezing, runny nose, redness, itching, and watery eyes.
Urticaria
Urticaria or hives are itchy rashes that are found on your skin. It is triggered by an allergic reaction to food, medicines (like some antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines such as aspirin, high blood pressure medicines such as captopril) or other irritants in the environment. Billargic Oral Solution is used to treat symptoms of urticaria like itchy skin, swelling, redness, etc.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid using Billargic Oral Solution if you are allergic to it. Seek an immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties, etc.
Pheochromocytoma
Pheochromocytoma is a rare tumour of the adrenal glands- small glands located above the kidneys. Adrenal glands produce hormones that help to regulate blood pressure in your body. This gland gets activated by Billargic Oral Solution resulting in the abnormal release of epinephrine and nor-epinephrine (hormones) which increase the blood pressure in your body. Hence, Billargic Oral Solution is not recommended for those who have Pheochromocytoma due to the risk of high blood pressure.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Take/Administer the missed dose of Billargic Oral Solution when you remember (making sure you take it when your stomach is empty). If you forget to take the dose till the next day, skip it and do not take two doses at a time to make up for a missed dose.
Overdose
If you have taken an extra dose of Billargic Oral Solution accidentally, seek medical help or contact your doctor immediately.

General Instructions

Take/Administer Billargic Oral Solution on an empty stomach or half an hour before or two hours after a meal. Never take more than the prescribed dose. Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.
