Description

Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup is an antihistamine medicine used widely to relieve allergic symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, redness of the nose, watery eyes, itching, rash and hives. It stops the action of a natural substance called histamine produced in your body during an allergic reaction.

Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup is generally safe to use. However, it may cause some side effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, and tiredness. These symptoms are mild and go away with time.

It is recommended to take Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup in the evening. The dose and duration will depend on the condition it is being taken for. Urticaria
Urticaria or hives are itchy rashes that are found on the skin. It is triggered by an allergic reaction to food, medicines (like some antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines such as aspirin, high blood pressure medicines such as captopril) or other irritants in the environment. Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup is used to treat symptoms of urticaria like itchy skin, swelling. redness, etc.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup if you are allergic to it. Seek an immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties, etc.
Kidney Disease
Do not take Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup if you have severe kidney disease (creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min). This medicine is excreted out from your body through kidneys, and impaired kidney functions may lead to side effects.

Warnings

Warnings for special population
Pregnancy
Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup is generally safe in pregnancy to treat allergic symptoms. It is not known to cause any harm to your foetus. However, you should only use it on your doctor’s recommendation.
Breast-feeding
Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup can pass into breast milk. Hence, you should only use this medication if your doctor recommends it. Prolonged use or treatment with a higher dose may cause drowsiness and other side effects in your baby, as well as a reduction in milk supply.
General warnings
Driving or operating machinery
Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup may cause dizziness, sleepiness, or difficulty in concentrating. Do not drive vehicles or operate machines after taking this medicine.
Use in elderly
Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup should be used with caution in elderly patients due to the increased risk of serious adverse effects. A proper dose adjustment may be required.
Urinary retention
Urinary retention is a condition where you cannot empty all the urine from the bladder (the organ in which urine is stored). Discontinue the use of Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup if you experience difficulty in urinating.
Seizures
If you are at risk or experience seizures/fits, consult your doctor before taking Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup. This medicine may aggravate seizures, thus can worsen your condition.
Infants

Dosage

Missed Dose
If you forgot to take the dose of Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup at a given time, then take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.
Overdose
If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup, go to the emergency department of your local hospital.

Interactions

General Instructions
Take Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup with or without food preferably in the evening.
Never take more than the prescribed dose.
Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.
Stop taking Xyzal 2.5 MG Syrup at least three days before an allergy test, because it may affect the findings.
