Xylistin Forte 2MIU Injection is used for the treatment of diarrhea in infants and children caused by susceptible organisms, especially E. coli and Shigella, however, other agents are preferred and also for the treatment of superficial infections of external ear canal and of mastoidectomy and fenestration cavities.

Xylistin Forte 2MIU Injection is an antibiotic which treats bacterial infections by stopping the growth of bacteria. It is a very effective medicine to treat infections of the stomach and the intestine caused by sensitive gram-negative bacteria. It is also used for performing bowel sterilisation before a surgery.

During your treatment with this medicine, you may experience a few side effects like stomach upset and itching. Serious side effects may include numbness of the arms and legs, confusion, difficulty walking, psychosis, unsteadiness, unexplained fever, seizures, troubled breathing, muscle weakness, dizziness, slurred speech and signs of kidney problems.

You should not take this medicine if you have previously experienced allergies towards any of the ingredients in it or if you suffer from myasthenia gravis (a rare condition where muscle tire very fast), brain toxicity, impaired kidney function or colitis.

This medicine should not be used during a pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. Women who are breastfeeding should use it with caution. Medicines like tacrolimus, vancomycin, ethanol estradiol, streptomycin or live cholera vaccine may interfere with the action of Xylistin Forte 2MIU Injection so make sure your doctor knows if you are taking any other medicines.

Xylistin Forte 2MIU Injection is administered into the body by injecting it into a vein or a muscle as directed by your doctor. For severe gram-ve bacterial infections the usual dosage is 2.5-5 mg/kg/day in 2-4 divided doses. Maximum dose prescribed is 5 mg/kg/day.

Your prescription depends on your medical condition and response to treatment. It is recommended to keep taking this medicine for the full prescribed duration. Contact your doctor if you see no improvement in your condition.

Missed Dose instructions

Work

This medicine acts as a cationic detergent and disrupts the bacterial cell membrane. This results in oozing out of the cell constituent and lysis of the organism.
