Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm also known as retinoic acid belongs to the class of drugs known as retinoids (synthetic or man-made vitamin A). Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm is primarily used to treat acne (pimples), sun-damaged skin and leukaemia (blood cancer). Acne is a skin condition that is common and occurs when hair follicles are blocked with dead skin cells and oil. Leukaemia is a type of blood cancer caused due to the rise in the number of white blood cells (WBCs) in your body.

Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm is a form of vitamin A that loosen and unblock pores in the skin’s surface by reducing the oil secretion in the skin. This prevents the formation of pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm also reduces the excessive production of abnormal blood cells and stimulates the growth of normal, mature cells in blood and bone marrow. The oral form of Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm is used in the treatment of leukaemia (a type of blood cancer).

Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm is available in both topical and oral dosage form. The oral form of Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. A topical form of Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm can be taken on the fingertip and applied on the clean and dry affected area. Avoid contact of Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm with nose, mouth, eyes, ears or vagina. In case Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. Some people may experience dry skin, peeling, redness, burning, itching or stinging sensation of the skin. Directions for Use

Topically: Wash your hands before and after applying Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm. Before using it, try to clean and dry the affected skin area. Applying Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm to wet skin may cause skin irritation, so try not to wash the treated area. Also do not apply other skin products for at least 1 hour after applying Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm. Wash the face with mild soap and pat the skin dry. Take a small pearl-sized amount of Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm on the fingertip and apply on the clean and dry affected area once a day in the evening. Avoid contact of Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm with nose, mouth, eyes, ears or vagina. In case Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. Orally: If you are prescribed Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm in oral form, swallow the whole capsule with a glass of water. Take Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm with food to avoid stomach upset. Do not break, crush or chew it.

Use with an antibiotic (tetracycline) with Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm may cause increased risk of cranial hypertension (increased blood pressure in brain).

Drug Interactions

Drug-Drug Interaction: Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm may interact with an anti-epileptic drug (pentobarbital, phenobarbital), antifungal (ketoconazole), heart-related medicines (diltiazem, verapamil), antibiotics (erythromycin, rifampicin, tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, sulfonamides), drugs for stomach ulcers (cimetidine), immunosuppressant (ciclosporin), medicines to reduce bleeding (aprotinin, aminocaproic acid, tranexamic acid),  water pills (thiazides), antipsychotics (phenothiazines).

Drug-Food Interaction: In rare case, may increase the risk of Vitamin A toxicity if taken with cod liver oil or halibut fish oil.

Drug-Disease Interaction: If you have eczema (itchy, swelling of the skin) or any other skin condition, inform your doctor before taking Supatret 0.04 Aqueous Gel 20 gm.
