Pruwel 2 Tablet (Prucalopride 2mg)

INTRODUCTION

PRUWEL 2MG contains prucalopride which belongs to the group of medicines called prokinetic agents. It is used in the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation in adults, in whom laxatives do not work well enough. Chronic idiopathic constipation is a condition characterized by infrequent bowel movements or difficulty in passage of stools for a longer period without a known cause.

Prucalopride acts on the muscle wall of the gastrointestinal tract and restores the normal functioning of the bowel. Along with this treatment, eat fibre rich foods like fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of water. Try to keep yourself more active by exercising regularly. The most common side effect of taking this medicine are headache, feeling sick, diarrhea and abdominal pain. These side effects mostly occur at the starting of therapy and usually disappear within a few days with treatment.

Always take PRUWEL 2MG as directed by your physician. It can be taken with or without food and drinks and at any time of the day. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have obstruction or perforation of gut wall or severe inflammation of intestinal tract. This medicine is only meant for use in adults and should not be taken by children and adolescents up to 18 years. It is not recommended for use in pregnant and lactating women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

HOW PRUWEL 2MG WORKS

Prucalopride is a selective stimulator of serotonin 5HT4-receptors, which is found throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Activation of serotonin 5HT4-receptors results in the release of acetylcholine which is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the GI tract. This results in increased GI-motility. Additionally, prucalopride causes contraction of the muscle layer around the colon and relaxation of the circular muscle layer leading to the propulsion of luminal content.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always use this medicine as directed by your physician. It can be taken with or without food and drinks and at any time of the day. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your condition. Continue to take this medicine, as long as your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results.

COMMON
Headache

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea or vomiting:

Try taking this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Do not eat rich or spicy food.

Bloating or wind:

Eat smaller and frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly, and exercise regularly. If the symptoms get worse, contact your doctor immediately.

Diarrhea:

Drink lots of fluids, like water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any medicines without speaking to a doctor.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have smaller and frequent meals. Keeping a heat pad on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.

Decreased appetite:

Eat when you expect to be hungry. Eat smaller meals more often than usual. Snack when you’re hungry. Have nutritious snacks rich in calories and protein, such as dried fruit and nuts.

PREGNANCY
PRUWEL 2MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
PRUWEL 2MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if your ability is affected by this medicine.

KIDNEY
PRUWEL 2MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
PRUWEL 2MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to prucalopride.

LUNGS
PRUWEL 2MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe lung disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

HEART DISEASE
PRUWEL 2MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe heart disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor, if you:

Have any serious nervous system or mental health problems, cancer, AIDS or a hormonal disorder
Suffer from obstruction or perforation of gut wall, severe inflammation of intestinal tract, such as crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis or toxic megacolon/megarectum
