Lox 10% Spray (Lidocaine 10%)

INTRODUCTION

LOX 10% contains Lignocaine (Lidocaine) which belongs to a group of medicines called local anaesthetics which is used to numb (anaesthetise) parts of the body to reduce pain in preoperative surface anaesthesia, painful oral conditions and after childbirth. Lignocaine (Lidocaine) is a potent local anaesthetic of the amide type. Like other local anaesthetics, it prevents both the generation and conduction of nerve impulses by slowing depolarisation. This results from blocking of the large transient increase in permeability of the cell membrane to sodium ions that follows initial depolarisation of the membrane. It acts reversible blockade of impulse propagation by prevention of sodium flux. As a local anesthetic, lidocaine blocks initiation and conduction of nerve impulses by decreasing the permeability of the nerve cell membrane to sodium ions.

Before using this LOX 10% tell your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor will give the right dose depends on your child’s age and body weight. The common side effects are dizziness, irritation, redness at the application site. Do not get the spray in your eyes.

USES OF LOX 10%

HOW LOX 10% WORKS
LOX 10% blocks nerve transmission, when applied to a limited area of the body, which they bind to the sodium channels in the nerve membrane and prevent the entry of sodium ions in response to the membrane’s depolarization.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

LOX 10% will be given by your doctor or a nurse. Your doctor will give dose depends on your type of pain. Do not get the spray in your eyes.

SIDE EFFECTS OF LOX 10%

SERIOUS
Swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat
Severe or sudden swelling of your hands, feet and ankles
Breathing difficulty
Itching of the skin (with raised lumps)
COMMON
Application site reactions such as irritation, redness
Nervousness
Dizziness
Sleepiness
Sore throat
Hoarse voice or loss of voice
Low blood pressure
Fits (seizures)
Decrease in heart beat
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
LOX 10% should be used with caution in pregnant women. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
LOX 10% should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
LOX 10% may affect your ability to drive or handle any machines depending on where and how it is used.

KIDNEY
LOX 10% should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
LOX 10% should be used with caution in patients suffering from active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Lignocaine (Lidocaine).

HEART DISEASE
LOX 10% is not recommended in patients with severe slow heartbeat or any other active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Inform your doctor if you have or had,

Cuts, sores or ulcers in throat, mouth or nose
Chest infection
Decrease in blood pressure
Porphyria
Epilepsy

INTERACTIONS

Inform your doctor if you are using or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following,

Mexiletine (treats uneven heart beats)
Prilocaine or bupivacaine (other local anaesthetics)
