Medical Description

Lonopin 40 mg injection is an anticoagulant medicine. It is used for the prevention and treatment of the formation of blood clots within the blood vessels. It is used during and after orthopaedic surgeries, prevent the formation of a clot in the tubes of your dialysis machine and in individuals with heart conditions where a clot could be harmful. Lonopin 40 mg injection contains enoxaparin as an active ingredient. You should inform your doctor if you are going for any surgery or operation or any procedure which involves epidural or spinal anaesthesia. As it can lead to the formation of clots in or around your spinal cord and can cause paralysis. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or are breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting the Lonopin 40 mg injection.

Uses of Lonopin 40 MG

To prevent blood clot formation during orthopaedic surgery, general surgery and haemodialysis. Prevent formation of a blood clot after a heart attack, angina and to prevent deep vein thrombosis (formation of blood clots in a deep vein, especially in legs).

Contraindications of Lonopin 40 MG

If you are allergic to Enoxaparin or any of the other ingredients of this injection. If you are allergic to other anticoagulants such as heparin or nadroparin, tinzaparin or dalteparin. If taking heparin has caused a severe drop in the number of your clotting cells (platelets). If you are bleeding heavily or have a condition with a high risk of bleeding, such as an ulcer or any recent surgery of brain, eyes or recent bleeding stroke. If you are supposed to go for a spinal or lumbar puncture or an operation with epidural or spinal anaesthesia. Ask your doctor if you are not sure about any of the conditions.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
You have ever had an allergic reaction due to the use of heparin (anticoagulant).
You have had a heart valve fitted (artificial heart valve).
You have an infection of the inner lining of the heart (endocarditis).
You have a history of stomach or intestinal ulcers.
You have had a recent stroke or have high blood pressure or kidney problems.
You have diabetes or problems called diabetic retinopathy (affects blood vessels of eyes).
You have had an operation recently on your eyes or brain or spinal surgery.
You are elderly (over 65 years old).
You have liver problems or are underweight or overweight.
You have been told that there are high levels of potassium in your blood.

How Does It Work?
Lonopin 40 mg works via two mechanisms to prevent or stop the formation of blood clots. It prevents the existing blood clots from getting any bigger and helps your body to break down clots and stops them from causing you harm. It also stops new blood clots from forming in your blood vessels.

Lonopin 40 mg injection will be given to you in a hospital or clinic by a healthcare expert.

Interactions of Lonopin 40 MG

Interactions with other medicines
Medicines that are used to prevent or stop bleeding or can affect bleeding should be discontinued before starting with the therapy with Lonopin 40 mg. Such medicines include aspirin, warfarin, dextran, ibuprofen, diclofenac, ketorolac and steroids.
Medicines that increase potassium levels such as potassium salts, water pills and some medicines for heart problems should be used cautiously.
Tell your doctor if you are going to have a spinal or lumbar puncture or an operation where an epidural or spinal anaesthetic is used.

Do not store above 25°C. Do not freeze. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Dosage of Lonopin 40 MG

Overdose
Overdose of Lonopin 40 mg injection is unlikely since it is given by a healthcare practitioner or a nurse. Overdose of this injection may lead to bleeding in the body. Inform your doctor if you experience any undesirable effects right after taking this injection.
Missed a Dose
The chance of missing a dose is less since this is to be given in a hospital. However, if your doctor or nurse forgets to give a dose of this injection, remind them.
