Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops is a medicine used to treat eye conditions such as intraocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma caused due to increased fluid pressure inside the eyes. It works by decreasing the secretion of fluid in the eyes, thus reducing the fluid pressure.

Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops may cause side effects like headache, burning sensation in the eyes, dry eyes, itching, etc. Most of these side effects are temporary and resolve on their own. However, consult your doctor if they persist or worsen. It may also cause blurred vision immediately after instilling the medicine in your eyes. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines until your vision is clear.

Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops is meant for external use only. To use this medicine, pull down your lower eyelid and squeeze a few drops of the medicine into the eyelid pocket. Do not stop using this medicine without consulting your doctor, as it may worsen your condition.

What is it prescribed for?
Intraocular hypertension
Intraocular pressure (IOP) is the fluid pressure inside the eyes. Intraocular hypertension is when the pressure inside the eyes is higher than normal. It is caused by an imbalance in the production and drainage of fluid in the eyes. Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops is used to reduce the fluid pressure inside the eyes.
Open angle Glaucoma
Glaucoma refers to a group of eye conditions that cause damage to the optic nerve (the nerve that carries information from the eye to the brain), usually due to high pressure inside the eyes. In the case of open-angle glaucoma, the drainage canal becomes clogged and prevents the drain out of fluid from the eyes. Thus, it may lead to increased pressure inside the eyes and eventually loss of vision. Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops is used in the treatment of open-angle glaucoma.

When not to use?

Allergy
Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops is not recommended for use if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Respiratory diseases
Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops is not recommended for use if you have respiratory conditions such as asthma (narrowing of the airways) or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (lung conditions that cause blockage of airflow leading to breathing-related problems). This medicine may get absorbed into the blood and cause bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the airways). Hence, it may worsen your condition.
Sinus bradycardia
Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops is not recommended for use if you have sinus bradycardia (slow heartbeat) as it may interfere with the electrical impulses in your heart and could lead to even slower heartbeats.
Atrioventricular block
Heart block, also called AV block, is when the electrical signal that controls your heartbeat is partially or completely blocked. Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops is meant for external use only. Instill the medicine in your eyes as instructed by your doctor. Follow all the usage instructions mentioned on the label or packaging insert. Wash your hands before and after use.

Avoid touching the tip of the tube against your eye or other surfaces. Close the cover of the bottle after administration to keep it clean and free from contamination. Do not wipe or rinse the dropper tip.

Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before instilling other medications in the same eye.

Do not use Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops for more than 30 days after breaking the seal.

Avoid using Iotim 0.5 % Eye Drops if the solution is cloudy or the colour has changed.
