INTRODUCTION
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) contains Liraglutide which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetics. VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus which helps your body to reduce high blood sugar levels and slows food passage through your stomach which also prevents heart disease. VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is used alone when your blood sugar is not properly controlled by diet, exercise, and other oral antidiabetic medicines such metformin, pioglitazone, sulfonylurea (such as glimepiride, glipizide) sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i)) such as (empagliflozin, dapagliflozin) and/or insulin. Type 2 Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that occurs due high level of sugar in the blood which is generally characterized by symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination, increased hunger, unintended weight loss, weakness and blurred vision.
Liraglutide works by helping the pancreas to release the right amount of insulin when blood sugar levels are high which is then moved into body tissue from the blood where it is used for energy thus resulting in the reduction of blood sugar level which also slows the emptying of the stomach resulting in decrease of appetite thereby preventing weight gain.
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is not recommended for use in patients having type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes with high blood sugar and increase in effort to breathe), severe stomach, or gut problems, inflammatory bowel disease, severe liver disease, or heart failure. Before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED), inform your doctor if you have thyroid disease such as enlarged thyroid gland, have or had a disease of pancreas such as pancreatitis.
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women and it should be used with caution in elderly patients (above 65 years of age). Consult your doctor before using it. The most common side effects of using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) are nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and low blood sugar levels. Consult and inform your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

HOW VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) WORKS

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Use VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) as advised by your doctor. Do not inject it into a vein or muscle and inject VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) subcutaneously (under the skin) in front of your thighs, waist or upper arm. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED)
COMMON
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Headache
- Indigestion
- Signs of inflamed stomach (gastritis) such as stomachache, nausea, and vomiting
- Signs of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (acid reflux) such as heartburn
- Painful or swollen tummy
- Abdominal discomfort

- Wind (flatulence)
- Decreased appetite
- Bronchitis
- Common cold
- Dizziness
- Increased pulse rate
- Tiredness
- Toothache
- Signs of injection site reactions such as bruising, pain, irritation, itching and rash
UNCOMMON
- Signs of allergic reactions such as itching and skin rash
- Dehydration
- Feeling unwell
- Gallstones
- Inflamed gallbladder
- Delay in the emptying of the stomach
Stop using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Signs of low blood sugar such as cold sweat, cool pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, nausea, feeling very hungry, changes in vision, feeling sleepy, feeling weak, nervous, anxious, confused, difficulty concentrating, shaking (tremor).
- Signs of severe form of anaphylactic reaction (allergic reaction) such as breathing problems, swelling of throat and face, fast heartbeat, etc.
- Signs of bowel obstruction (severe form of constipation) such as stomachache, bloating, and vomiting.
- Signs of pancreatitis (serious life-threatening condition that occurs due to inflammation of the pancreas) such as severe and persistent pain in the abdomen (stomach area), nausea and vomiting.
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fiber-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Diarrhea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Indigestion:
Try to have smaller and more frequent meals and eat and drink slowly. Try to reduce consumption of tea, coffee, cola or alcohol and lose weight if you are obese. Avoid smoking and don’t have rich, spicy or fatty foods. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. If headaches last more than a week or severe, inform your doctor.
Tiredness:
Drink plenty of fluid and eat balanced diet and frequent meals. Do regular minimal exercise and follow regular sleep schedule. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is not recommended for use in pregnant women and women with childbearing potential. Consult your doctor before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED).
BREASTFEEDING
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED).
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) might cause signs of low blood sugar levels such as cold sweat, cool pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, nausea, feeling hungry, changes in vision, feeling sleepy, feeling weak, nervous, anxious, confused, difficulty concentrating, shaking. If you experience any of these symptoms avoid driving or operating any machines.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED).
KIDNEY
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED).
LIVER
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED).
ALLERGY
Do not use VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) if you are allergic to Liraglutide or any of the other ingredients of the medicines.
HEART DISEASE
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is not recommended to use in patients with severe heart failure. Consult your doctor before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED).
OTHERS
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is not recommended for use if you have:
- Type 1 diabetes (type of diabetes where your body does not produce any insulin)
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes with high blood sugar and increase in effort to breathe).
- Severe stomach or gut problem which results in delayed stomach emptying
- Signs of inflammatory bowel disease such as diarrhea, weakness, stomach pain, blood in your stool
Before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED), inform your doctor if you have:
- Thyroid disease including thyroid nodules and enlargement of the thyroid gland
- Or had a disease of pancreas such as pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
Use in pediatrics:
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) is recommended for use in children (above 10 years of age). Consult your doctor before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED).
Use in geriatrics:
VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or above). Consult your doctor before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED).
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before using VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED), inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Other medicines used to treat diabetes such as insulin, sulfonylureas Ex. glimepiride or glibenclamide
- Oral anticoagulants (medicines used to treat blood clots) Ex. warfarin, dabigatran
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally use too much of VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED), consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage symptoms of VICTOZA 6MG/ML PEN(PREFILLED) are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or low blood sugar.
