Trazalon 50 MG
Trazalon is a prescription medication. It is used in the management of all symptoms of depression, including anxiety. The active ingredient in Trazalon is Trazodone 50 mg. Depression is a conditio
characterised by persistent low mood. Persons affected by depression present with complaints such as feeling low, decreased motivation, feelings of hopelessness and dread, and loss of interest in daily activities that can be debilitating. Multiple brain pathways and chemical messengers are indicated in depression, chiefly serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. The mode of action of Trazalon and other antidepressant medications is by targeting these pathways and neurotransmitters to help relieve the symptoms of depression. This medication should be taken as recommended by the doctor. It should not be abruptly started or stopped, as it may cause withdrawal effects. Taking the tablet at the same time every day is advisable for maximum efficacy. Side effects of Trazalon include swelling of limbs, blurring of vision, dry mouth, fall in blood pressure on change of position (orthostatic hypotension), transient loss of consciousness (syncope), diarrhoea, nasal congestion, and weight loss.

Mode of Action of Trazalon 50 MG
How Does It Work?
Trazalon tablets primarily work by targeting the brain pathways that involve the neurotransmitter serotonin. This chemical messenger promotes mood and personality as well as wakefulness. Trazadone is a Serotonin Antagonist and Reuptake Inhibitor (SARI), and by affecting serotonin in the brain, it relieves the symptoms of depression. In addition, it also has anti-anxiety and sleep-inducing effects.
Directions for Use of Trazalon 50 MG

This medication should be taken as prescribed by the treating physician.

It is recommended to take this medication on a regular schedule, that is, at the same time every day for optimal effects.

Swallow this tablet as a whole. Do not crush or chew it.

It is recommended to complete the entire course of this medication as prescribed by your treating doctor. It can take up to 2-4 weeks for the maximum efficacy of this medicine to manifest.

Abrupt stoppage of the medicine can cause withdrawal effects. Consult your doctor before stopping this medication.

Interactions of Trazalon 50 MG
Interactions with other medicines

This medicine should not be used concomitantly or within two weeks of using any monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like Selegiline, Rasagiline, etc. It may cause Serotonin Syndrome, which is potentially life-threatening.

Trazalon tablets should not be mixed with medicines that slow down clotting time in the body by decreasing platelet activity, such as aspirin, NSAIDs, heparin, warfarin, and other anti-coagulants. This may lead to bruising, nose bleeds, or internal bleeding.

Dosage of Trazalon 50 MG
Overdose
The symptoms of Trazalon overdose may include drowsiness, vomiting, fall in blood pressure, decreased heart rate, abnormal heart rhythms, fall in sodium levels, coma, and cardiac arrest. In case of a suspected overdose, rush the affected person to a tertiary care centre with ICU facilities for further evaluation and treatment.
Missed a Dose
If you miss a dose of this tablet, it is advised to take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, it is recommended to skip the missed dose and go back to the regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose of the tablet to make up for the missed one.
