Tovaxo Eye Drop (Travoprost 0.004%)

INTRODUCTION

TOVAXO contains travoprost which belongs to a group of medicines called prostaglandin analogues. It works by reducing pressure in the eye which can lead to an illness called a glaucoma. It is absorbed through cornea, where it is hydrolyzed to free travoprost acid. After one to two hours of application, highest concentrations of the acid in the eye are reached. There it exerts their ocular hypotensive effect by increasing uveoscleral outflow through the prostaglandin FP receptors, located in the ciliary muscle and in the trabecular meshwork.

The recommended dose is one drop in affected eye or eyes, once a day in evening or as directed by your physician. Talk to your doctor before you use this medicine, if you have current or previous history of iritis and uveitis (eye inflammation). It may cause changes in eyelashes such as increase in its length, thickness, colour and/or number. Changes in eyelids such as unusual hair growth or in tissues around the eye have also been observed. The common side effects are dizziness, drowsiness, headache, eye redness, changes in the colour of iris, eye pain and discomfort, dry eye, itchy eye, eye irritation.

HOW TOVAXO WORKS

TOVAXO is absorbed through cornea, where it is hydrolyzed to free travoprost acid. After one to two hours of application, highest concentrations of the acid in the eye are reached. There it exerts it’s ocular hypotensive effect by increasing the drainage of fluid from inside your eye and which helps in lowering the pressure inside your eye.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

The recommended dose is one drop in affected eye or eyes, once a day in evening or as directed by your physician. It is for external use only.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Skin redness:

Avoid bathing with hot water because hot water can irritate the skin. Moisturizers can be used on regular basis to soothe and hydrate the affected area.

Dry eyes:

Take a warm, wet cloth and hold this over your eyes for five minutes to reduce dry eye symptoms. Massage your eyelids with mild soap like baby shampoo. Close your eyes and apply the soap with your fingertips and massage your eyelids.

PREGNANCY
TOVAXO is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
TOVAXO is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machinery while using this medicine, it may make you feel blurred vision.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with TOVAXO.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic to the medicine.

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking or recently taken or used any other medicines.
