Description
Synthivan Tablet is a combination of Atazanavir and Ritonavir. It is an antiviral medicine used for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (a condition that occurs when the virus attacks the immune system and interferes with your body’s ability to fight infections or diseases).
Synthivan Tablet will not cure HIV infection, but it will delay the progression of a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and other HIV-related conditions. This medicine works by preventing the virus from multiplying.
Synthivan Tablet shows some side effects like nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, heartburn, dizziness, drowsiness, change in taste, weakness, trouble sleeping, etc. Consult your doctor if they bother you for a longer time or worsen. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it.
Synthivan Tablet should be taken with food. Take it in the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more than the recommended dose. Take it every day at the same time to maintain a consistent level of this medicine in your blood. Do not discontinue this medication without consulting your doctor, as it may worsen your condition.
Synthivan Tablet may not be suitable for everyone. Inform your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, diabetes (high blood sugar levels), or any other health conditions. Also, inform your doctor about all your ongoing medications to avoid undesired effects.
Synthivan Tablet is unsafe for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding. If you have an HIV infection, it is not recommended to breastfeed, as the Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) may transfer to the baby through breastmilk.

Uses of Synthivan Tablet
What is it prescribed for?
HIV infection
HIV infection is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The virus attacks the immune system of your body and affects your body’s disease-fighting ability. It can be transmitted through infected blood, semen, and vaginal fluid. The symptoms include fatigue, weight loss, fever, night sweats, and recurrent infections. Synthivan Tablet is used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.
When not to use?
Allergy
Avoid taking Synthivan Tablet if you are allergic to it. Serious allergic reactions to this medicine are rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Drug interaction
CYP3A or UGT1A1 are liver enzymes responsible for the breakdown of various medicines such as Alfuzosin, Amiodarone, Rifampin, Irinotecan, Triazolam, Midazolam, Cisapride, Simvastatin, Lovastatin, Indinavir, Sildenafil, Voriconazole, Ranolazine, Lurasidone, Pimozide, Colchicine, Ergotamine, etc., in the liver. Synthivan Tablet is not recommended for use if you are receiving medicines that are highly dependent on CYP3A or UGT1A1 enzymes for their breakdown in the liver. Combined use may increase the risk of alteration in the blood levels of these medications, which may cause serious and life-threatening reactions.
Moderate to severe live impairment
Synthivan Tablet is not recommended for use if you have moderate to severe liver problems, as this medicine may cause liver toxicity and further worsen your condition.

Immune reconstitution syndrome
Changes in your immune system can occur when you start taking Synthivan Tablet. Your immune system may get stronger and begin to fight infections that have been hidden in your body for a long time.
