Sulisent 100mg Tablet (Canagliflozin 100mg)

INTRODUCTION

SULISENT 100MG contain canagliflozin which belongs to a group of medicine called blood-glucose lowering drugs. This medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a condition where your body does not produce enough insulin, and or the insulin that produced by your body does not work. When your body make too much sugar it gets build up in the blood may also leads to high blood sugar. This can lead to serious medical problems. The main goal of treating diabetes is to lower your blood sugar to a normal level. High blood sugar can be lowered by diet and exercise, and by certain medicine when necessary.

SULISENT 100MG can be used by itself or along with other medicines you may be using to treat your type 2 diabetes such as metformin, insulin, DPP-4 inhibitor such as sitagliptin, saxagliptin, or linagliptin, sulphonyl urea such as glimepiride or glipizide or pioglitazone that lower blood sugar levels.

This medicine is strictly not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years. Check your blood sugar periodically as per the instruction of your doctor. Your doctor will monitor your diabetes with regular blood tests, including your blood sugar levels and your haemoglobin A1C. While taking this medicine, stay on diet prescribed to you and regular exercise. Take good care of your feet and check regularly. Adhere to doctor’s advice regarding foot care given.

Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, or pancreas problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

HOW SULISENT 100MG WORKS

SULISENT 100MG inhibits the sodium/glucose cotransporter (SGLT2) in the proximal convoluted tubule (PCT). This results in decreased sodium and glucose reabsorption in the kidney, resulting in increased urinary glucose excretion and low plasma glucose.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take SULISENT 100MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. It is best to take this medicine before the first meal of the day. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

SIDE EFFECTS OF SULISENT 100MG

SERIOUS
Severe allergic reaction (including swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat that may lead to difficulty breathing or swallowing)
Diabetic ketoacidosis (symptoms include nausea, vomiting, tiredness, trouble breathing, stomach pain, confusion, rapid weight loss, excessive thirst)
Kidney problems
High amount of potassium in your blood
Low blood sugar (headache, irritability, confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, hunger, shaking or feeling jittery, sweating, weakness, fast heart)
Bone fractures
COMMON
Vaginal yeast infection
Rash or redness of the penis or foreskin (yeast infections)
Urinary tract infection
Constipation
Feeling thirsty
Nausea
Changes in cholesterol levels
Increases in amount of red blood cell in your blood (haematocrit)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation:

Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

Nausea and vomiting:

Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

Stomach pain:

Keep try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly and smaller and frequent meals. Keeping a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.

Dizziness:

Lie down by closing the eyes. Drink plenty of water and keep hydrated. Take plenty of sleep.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
SULISENT 100MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
SULISENT 100MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dizziness or light headedness.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with SULISENT 100MG.

KIDNEY
SULISENT 100MG not recommended in patients with active kidney diseases. Before taking, this medicine consult your doctor.

LIVER
SULISENT 100MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

ALLERGY
Do not take SULISENT 100MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to canagliflozin or any other ingredients in this medicine.

HEART DISEASE
SULISENT 100MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Before taking, this medicine consult your doctor.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,

Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
Lower limb amputation
Signs of a genital yeast infection such as irritation, itching, unusual discharge and odour

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor if you are taking,

Other antidiabetics such as insulin or a sulphonyl urea such as glimepiride or glipizide (used to avoid your blood sugar level from getting too low (hypoglycaemia))
Diuretics (used to remove levels of excess water in the body)
Anti-hypertensives, diuretics (used to lower your blood pressure)
Herbal medicine such as St. John’s wort (used to treat depression)
Carbamazepine, phenytoin, or phenobarbital (used to control seizure)
Efavirenz or ritonavir (used to treat HIV infections)
Antibiotic such as rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis)
Cholestyramine (used to reduce cholesterol level in the blood)
Digoxin or digitoxin (used for certain heart problems)
Dabigatran (blood thinner medicines that lowers the risk of blood clot formation)
