INTRODUCTION

SOLITEN 10MG contains Solifenacin which belongs to the group of medicines called anticholinergics. It is used to treat the symptoms of a urological condition called as overactive bladder. Overactive bladder, also called as OAB is a type of bladder problem which causes a frequent and sudden urge to urinate that may be difficult to control.

Solifenacin effectively reduces the activity of an overactive bladder and enables you to wait longer before you go to the bathroom. It can also increase the amount of urine that can be held by your bladder. Prior to the treatment, your doctor may assess for the presence of any other conditions which can cause urgent need to urinate like heart failure or kidney disease.

SOLITEN 10MG can be taken with or without food. The most common side effects of this medicine are blurred vision, constipation, indigestion, stomach pain or dizziness. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms troubles you. Before taking this medicine inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease. This medicine should be used in pregnant only if necessary. It is strictly not recommended for use in lactating women and children below 18 years of age.

HOW SOLITEN 10MG WORKS

Solifenacin competitively binds to and antagonizes the activity of muscarinic receptors (M2 and M3) present in the bladder and prevents the contraction of detrusor muscle and smooth muscle. As a result, it increases the amount of urine that can be held by your bladder, decreases the activity of an overactive bladder and reduces frequent and sudden urge to urinate.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take this medicine as directed by your physician. It can be taken with or without food. Swallow the medicine as whole with a sip of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your condition.

SERIOUS
Serious allergic reactions (such as blistering and peeling of skin)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea:

Try taking this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Do not eat rich or spicy food.

Indigestion:

Eat smaller and frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly, and exercise regularly. If the symptoms get worse, contact your doctor straight away.

Constipation:

Eat fibre rich foods like fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have smaller and frequent meals. Keeping a heat pad on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
SOLITEN 10MG should be used in pregnant women only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking.

BREASTFEEDING
Do not take SOLITEN 10MG if you are breast-feeding. Consult your doctor for advice.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines, because this medicine may cause blurred vision, sleepiness or tiredness.

ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine.

KIDNEY
Do not take SOLITEN 10MG if you have any kidney disease like urinary retention (inability to pass water or to empty your bladder completely) or bladder obstruction (trouble emptying your bladder). Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
Do not take SOLITEN 10MG if you have any moderate to severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to solifenacin.

OTHERS
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have:

Any severe stomach or bowel condition
Myasthenia gravis
Glaucoma
Constipation or decreased stomach and bowel movements
Hiatus hernia or heartburn
Autonomic neuropathy

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor, if you are taking,

Other anticholinergic medicines (e.g. atropine, belladonna, clinidium)
Cholinergics (agents which mimic the action of acetylcholine) e.g. pilocarpine, physostigmine
Medicines which increases gastric motility (e.g. metoclopramide and cisapride)
Ketoconazoleor, itraconazole (used to treat fungal infection)
Ritonavir and nelfinavir (used to treat viral infections)
Verapamil and diltiazem (used to treat heart problems)
Rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis)
Phenytoin and carbamazepine (used to treat epilepsy)
Bisphosphonates (used to treat osteoporosis) such as alendronate, risedronate or zoledronic acid
