Rivamer 3 Capsule (Rivastigmine 3mg)

INTRODUCTION

RIVAMER 3MG contains Rivastigmine which belongs to a group of medicines called cholinesterase inhibitors. This medicine is used to treat mild to moderately severe Alzheimer’s dementia and dementia due to Parkinson’s disease. Dementia is a progressive brain disorder where it affects memory, intellectual ability and behaviour gradually. Alzheimer’s dementia or dementia due to Parkinson’s disease cause death of certain nerve cells resulting in low levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, a substance which allows nerve cells to communicate with each other.

Take this medicine exactly as instructed by your doctor. The dose you take will depend on your age, other medications you are taking and whether you have any kidney or liver problems. It works by blocking the enzymes that break down acetylcholine. By blocking the enzymes, it increases the levels of acetylcholine in the brain that help in reducing the symptoms of dementia associated with Alzheimer disease and Parkinson’s disease. Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dizziness and sleepiness. This medicine is not recommended for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. The common side effects are nausea, vomiting, headache and dizziness.

HOW RIVAMER 3MG WORKS

RIVAMER 3MG works by blocking the enzymes that break down acetylcholine. By blocking the enzymes, it increases the levels of acetylcholine in the brain that help in reducing the symptoms of dementia associated with Alzheimer disease and Parkinson’s disease.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow as a whole, do not crush or chew. It can be taken with or without food. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Nausea:

Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. ORS should be used to prevent dehydration.

Abdominal pain:

Place a warm water bottle on your abdomen. Soak in a warm bath. Drink plenty of clear fluids and water.

Vomiting:

Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, greasy, or sweet foods.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
RIVAMER 3MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
RIVAMER 3MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dizziness and sleepiness.

KIDNEY
RIVAMER 3MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
RIVAMER 3MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Rivastigmine or any other ingredients in this medicine.

HEART DISEASE
RIVAMER 3MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from irregular or slow heartbeat, heart failure or attack or any other active heart diseases.

OTHERS

Inform your doctor if you have or had,

Low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood
Active stomach ulcer
Difficulty in passing urine
Seizures
Asthma or severe respiratory disease
Low body weight

INTERACTIONS

Inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following,

Neostigmine (used to treat myasthenia gravis)
Darunavir (used to treat HIV infection)
Oxybutynin, tolterodine (used to prevent travel sickness)
Anticholinergic medicines (used to relieve stomach cramps or spasms)
Atenolol (used to treat high blood pressure)
Timolol (used in eye drops to treat glaucoma)
Diltiazem, sotalol, digoxin, pilocarpine (used to treat heart conditions)
Cisapride and diphemanil (used to treat stomach and gut problems)
Citalopram (used to treat depression)
Erythromycin IV, moxifloxacin, (antibiotics)
Halofantrine (used to treat malaria)
Mizolastine (used to treat allergies)
Methadone (used for pain and heroin addiction)
Pentamidine (used to treat pneumonia)
Chlorpromazine, levomepromazine, sulpiride, sultopride, amisulpride, tiapride, veralipride, pimozide, haloperidol, droperidol (used to treat some mental health conditions)
