Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s belongs to a group of medicines called as beta-blockers used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart related chest pain (angina) and protect heart after heart attack (myocardial infarction). Besides this, it also help in relieving symptoms of migraine related headache and tremors (fits). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries.

Hypertension or high blood pressure is a long-term force of the blood against the arteries that may lead to various types of heart diseases. If it continues for a long time, it can damage the blood vessels (arteries) of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack and heart related chest pain (angina).

Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s can be taken orally with or without food or as directed by your physician. Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s is preferable to take at the same time every day for better results. You may have common side like feeling dizzy or exhausted, cold hands or feet, difficulty in sleeping and having nightmares. These side effects are usually mild and short lived. Before taking Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s you should tell doctor if you have any muscle disorder (myasthenia gravis, rhabdomyolysis), breathing problem (COPD, bronchitis, emphysema), low blood sugar level (hypoglycaemia), low blood pressure (hypotension), depression, previous heart failure, liver/kidney disease, thyroid hormone disorder, adrenal gland cancer, or problems with circulation (Raynaud’s syndrome).

Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s blocks beta 1 receptor located in the cells of the heart that lowers heart rate and decreases heart’s blood pumping frequency decreasing raised blood pressure. On the other hand, Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s also blocks beta 2 receptors located in the lungs (bronchioles) and blood vessels of skeletal muscle narrowing it. This in turn lowers your overall body’s blood pressure and helps in reducing risk of having a stroke, a heart attack, heart problems or kidney problems in the future. Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s is used in combination with thiazide diuretics (water pills) and other medicines for the treatment of high blood pressure. Additionally, Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s reduces symptoms of essential tremor (fits), and prevent migraine. Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s can reduce symptoms of too much thyroid hormone (thyrotoxicosis) and can be taken together with thyroid related medicines to treat an overactive thyroid.

Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s can be taken orally with or without food or as directed by your doctor. Swallow the whole tablet with approximately a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. It is preferable to take the drug at the same time every day for better results. Never take an overdose to make up for a forgotten one.

Like other medications, Protol XL 25 Tablet 10’s may cause some side effects. However these side effects may be minor and temporary. Some of the common side effects may include headache, fatigue, sleep disturbance, dry mouth, nausea and vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhoea or constipation, abdominal pain, numbness, a tingling sensation in the skin, increased sensitivity of the skin to sun (hyperpigmentation), sweating, hair loss, increased weight and lower back pain.
