Novorapid Solution for Injection penfill (Insulin Aspart)

INTRODUCTION

NOVORAPID contains Insulin aspart is a rapid–acting insulin. It is used to control diabetes mellitus (diabetes)in adults, adolescents and children aged 1 year and above. Diabetes is a condition where your body does not produce enough insulin to control the level of your blood sugar. After 15-20 minutes of injection, this medicine will start to lower your blood sugar. Its maximum effect happens between 1 and 3 hours after the injection and lasts for 3–5 hours. This medicine is normally taken in combination with other intermediate acting or long acting insulin preparations due to its rapid and short action.

Always use your medicine and adjust your dose exactly as your doctor has told you. It is generally taken immediately before a meal. It may be taken with or without food. It must be injected under the skin (subcutaneously). Tell your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or heart problems. Do not give this medicine for children below 1 year of age. The common side effect of this medicine is low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia). Avoid alcohol consumption, since it may also lead to a fall in your blood sugar levels.

HOW NOVORAPID WORKS

NOVORAPID lowers blood glucose by increasing peripheral glucose uptake, particularly in the skeletal muscle and fat and regulates the metabolism of glucose.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always use your medicine and adjust your dose exactly as your doctor has told you. It is generally taken immediately before a meal. It may be taken with or without food. It must be injected under the skin (subcutaneously).

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia):

Eat glucose medicines or high sugar snack like sweets, biscuits or fruit juice. Measure your blood sugar if possible and take rest.

Vomiting:

Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, greasy, or sweet foods.

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
NOVORAPID is considered safe for use by pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

BREASTFEEDING
NOVORAPID is safe to use during breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines while taking this medicine it may cause hypoglycaemia.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with NOVORAPID. If you drink alcohol, your insulin levels may change as your blood sugar level may either rise or fall.

KIDNEY
NOVORAPID should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
NOVORAPID should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Insulin aspart or any ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you had or have a condition such as:

Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)

INTERACTIONS

Inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:

Pioglitazone (used to treat type 2 diabetes)
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (used to treat depression)
Beta-blockers or thiazides (used to treat high blood pressure or excessive fluid retention)
Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (used to treat certain heart conditions or high blood pressure)
Salicylates (used to relieve pain and fever)
Anabolic steroids (testosterone)
Sulphonamides (used to treat infections)
Oral contraceptives (birth control pills)
Glucocorticoids (cortisone used to treat inflammation)
Thyroid hormones (used to treat thyroid gland disorders)
Epinephrine, salbutamol, terbutaline (used to treat asthma)
Growth hormone
Danazol (medicine acting on ovulation)
Octreotide and lanreotide (used to treat acromegaly)
