Moxicip Eye Drop (Moxifloxacin 0.5%)

INTRODUCTION

MOXICIP contains Moxifloxacin which belongs to a group of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones which works by killing bacteria that cause infections. It is used to treat infections of the eye (conjunctivitis) when caused by bacteria.

Moxifloxacin is a sterile ophthalmic, 8-methoxy fluoroquinolone anti-infective for topical ophthalmic use. The antibacterial action of moxifloxacin results from inhibition of the topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV. DNA gyrase is an essential enzyme that is involved in the replication, transcription and repair of bacterial DNA. Topoisomerase IV is an enzyme known to play a key role in the partitioning of the chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division. It provides prolonged contact with ocular surface that ensures longer duration of action.

Always use MOXICIP exactly as directed by your doctor. Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have eye diseases or infection, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose depends on your child’s age and body weight. The common side effects are eye pain or irritation. Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs and symptoms of eye infection.

HOW MOXICIP WORKS

MOXICIP works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It binds and inhibits the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, results in inhibition of DNA replication, repair and cell death.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always use MOXICIP exactly as your doctor has told you. Instill 1 drop in the affected eyes 3 times a day. It is for topical ophthalmic use only.

Wash your hands and twist off the cap
Hold the medicine, pointing down between your thumb and fingers
Tilt your head back
Pull down your eyelid with a clean finger, until there is a pocket between the eyelid and your eye
Bring the bottle tip close to the eye
Do not touch eye or eyelid, surrounding areas or other surfaces with the dropper
Press the bottom to release one drop of medicine at a time
After using, press a finger into the corner of your eye, by the nose for 2 – 3 minutes
Wash your hands after use

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Eye pain or irritation:

Place a cool compress over the eyes, by soaking cloth in warm or cold water and then squeezing it out.

Vomiting:

Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, greasy, or sweet foods.

PREGNANCY
MOXICIP should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before using.

BREASTFEEDING
MOXICIP should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before using.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or handle any machines while using this medicine, since it may cause blurred vision.

ALLERGY
Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Moxifloxacin.
