Minipress XL 2.5 Tablet (Prazosin 2.5mg)

INTRODUCTION

MINIPRESS XL 2.5MG contains Prazosin hydrochloride which belongs to a group of medicines called alpha-blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure, mild enlargement of prostate gland in men, Raynaud’s disease (fingers become white and painful when cold) and certain types of heart failure. This medicine is often used in combination with other medicines. It reduces the resistance to blood flow by relaxing muscles in the walls of blood vessels and also increase the flow of urine in patients with prostate problems by relaxing muscles in the prostate gland.

Prazosin hydrochloride blocks sympathetically mediated vasoconstriction and produces fall in blood pressure. It inhibits the postsynaptic alpha-1 adrenoceptors which blocks the vasoconstricting (narrowing) effect of epinephrine and norepinephrine on the blood vessels, leading to peripheral blood vessel dilation. MINIPRESS XL 2.5MG lowers high blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels which makes the blood passes through them more easily. In heart failure, it works by relaxing the main blood vessels of the heart, allowing the heart to pump blood more easily.

Always take this MINIPRESS XL 2.5MG exactly as directed by your doctor. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse while taking this medicine. It is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age. The common side effects are headache, drowsiness and weakness.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take this medicine according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break the medicine. It can be taken with or without food.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Drowsiness or dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Feeling sick (nausea) or indigestion:

Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

Constipation:

Add fruits, vegetables whole grains and other high-fiber foods to your normal diet.

Diarrhea:

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. ORS should be used to prevent dehydration.

Nasal stuffiness:

Take long showers or breathe in steam from a pot of warm water. Place a warm, wet towel on your face.

PREGNANCY
MINIPRESS XL 2.5MG should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

BREASTFEEDING
MINIPRESS XL 2.5MG should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dizziness, drowsiness or weakness.

KIDNEY
MINIPRESS XL 2.5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
MINIPRESS XL 2.5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Prazosin or any ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE
MINIPRESS XL 2.5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor, if you:

Have ever fainted after passing urine
Have prolonged erection of the penis
Are undergoing eye surgery

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:

Calcium antagonists
ACE inhibitors or beta-blockers
Medicines for erectile dysfunction (impotence)
