Description

Malirid 7.5 mg Tablet is an antimalarial medication used for the prevention and treatment of malaria. It is particularly effective in treating malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium ovale strains of the parasite. It is also used to prevent the relapse (Radical cure) of vivax malaria.

What is it prescribed for?
Radical treatment of malaria
This medicine is used for the treatment and prevention of relapse of malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium ovale strains of the parasite. It is generally used along with other malaria medications to provide a radical cure.

When not to use?

Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known history of allergy to Primaquine or other 8-aminoquinoline compounds.
Granulocytopenia
This medicine is not recommended for use in acutely ill patients suffering from systemic disease like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus. There is a marked decrease in the number of granulocytes in such conditions.
Hemolytic and bone marrow depressant drugs
This medicine is not recommended for use if you are receiving a medication that can cause anemia or suppression of the immune system by affecting bone marrow cells as a side effect.
Quinacrine
This medicine is not recommended for use if you are consuming Quinacrine or any other combination medicine containing quinacrine.

Warnings for special population
Pregnancy
This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary and the benefits outweigh the risks involved.
Breast-feeding
This medicine is recommended for use in breastfeeding women only after diagnostic tests are performed to confirm normal G6PD enzyme levels. Consult your doctor before using this medicine.
General warnings
Regular blood examination
Use of this medicine can critically affect the blood cell count and cause anemia, leukopenia, and disorders of the blood. Hence, it is recommended to undergo regular blood examination while taking this medicine. Before initiating the treatment process with this medicine, patients should be examined for blood enzyme deficiencies.
Heart disease
Use of this medicine can affect the heart and worsen the symptoms of a pre-existing condition. It is advised to monitor such patients at regular intervals. Use of other medicines having a similar effect on the heart should be avoided.
Radical treatment of malaria
For radical treatment of malaria, this medicine should be used in combination with other anti-malaria medications that are effective against parasites present in the blood.
Other medicines
Report the use of all other medicines including herbs and supplements to the doctor before receiving Primaquine. The potential for interaction with other medicines is very high.
Drug resistance
It is recommended to take this medicine for the entire prescribed duration even when symptoms improve or resolve. Failure to do so might result in drug resistance and treating any subsequent infection with the same medicine would be very difficult.
Prolongation of QT interval
Use of this medicine may increase the risk of irregular heart rhythms. Therefore, it should be used with caution in patients with arrhythmias or any other heart diseases. Any symptoms of palpitations, difficulty in breathing should be reported to the doctor.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, then the missed dose can be skipped.
Overdose
Contact your doctor immediately if an overdose with this medicine is suspected. Symptoms of an overdose with this medicine may include vomiting, heartburn, stomach pain and cramps, pale skin, bluish lips and fingernails etc.

General Instructions

Take Malirid 7.5 mg Tablet as advised by your doctor. Do not take in larger amounts than advised. It is advised to take this medicine at the same time every day. Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor. Ensure that the course of treatment is completed to prevent the spread of infection. Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable effects.
