INTRODUCTION

LOBET 100MG contains Labetalol which belongs to a group of medicines known as beta-blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure during pregnancy in women). It also used to treat angina (pain in the chest, arms, shoulders or neck caused by effort, stress or cold weather) in patients with high blood pressure.

High blood pressure usually occurs from blood pushing too hard against your blood vessels. Angina is pain or discomfort that keeps coming back when part of your heart does not get enough blood. LOBET 100MG works by causing the heart to beat slower and with less force and also widens the arteries in the body which helps to lower the pressure of blood.

High blood pressure often causes no obvious symptoms but if it is not treated it can damage blood vessels in the long-term. This can lead to heart attacks, kidney failure, stroke or blindness. Always take LOBET 100MG exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the medicine whole with plenty of water. It should not be given to children. Do not drive or operate machines if you feel dizzy or tired while taking this medicine. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine, since it can make these side effects worse.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic to the medicine.

LUNGS
LOBET 100MG should be taken with caution in patients with history of asthma, wheezing or lung disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

HEART DISEASE
If you have any heart related problems, consult your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.

OTHERS

Inform your doctor before taking this medicine, if you have:

Diabetes mellitus
Overactive thyroid (thyrotoxicosis, hyperthyroidism)
Metabolic acidosis (increased acid levels in the blood)

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor if you are taking:

Antidepressants e.g. amitriptyline
Barbiturates e.g. phenobarbital, to help you sleep
Other medicines to lower blood pressure e.g. hydralazine, nifedipine
Medicine given by injection which contains adrenaline
Antidiabetic drugs, including insulin
Other beta-blockers
Medicine for mental illness such as chlorpromazine
Cimetidine, to treat heartburn or ulcers
Anti-inflammatory painkillers e.g. ibuprofen, aspirin, other medicines used to treat pain, or corticosteroids e.g. prednisolone
