Itaspor-SB Capsule (Itraconazole 50mg)

INTRODUCTION

ITASPOR SB contains itraconazole which belongs to a group of medicines called antifungals. It used for infections caused by fungi or yeasts in adults such as infections of mouth or vagina, skin infections and infections affecting other parts of the body. It acts by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzyme lanosterol which in turn blocks the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol, which disrupts the synthesis of fungal cell membrane.

It may take a few weeks for the skin patches to completely clear up and may take several months for finger and toenails to completely clear up after the treatment with this medicine. Your skin or nail will only look normal after new skin or nail has grown, even though the medicine has killed the fungus.

ITASPOR SB are not normally given to children under 12 years of age. Always take this medicine straight after a meal as this helps your body to use the medicine. Swallow the medicine whole with some liquid. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, or pancreas problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women. The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, headache.

HOW ITASPOR SB WORKS

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take ITASPOR SB exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the medicine whole with plenty of water.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ITASPOR SB

SERIOUS
Signs of allergy such as rash, hives, severe irritation of your skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
Severe peeling and/ or rashes of skin associated with fever, chills, aching muscles
Tingling sensation, numbness or weakness in limbs
Signs of liver problem such as yellowing of your skin or whites of your eyes, lack of appetite, tiredness, stomach pain, muscle weakness, unusually dark urine, pale stools or hair loss
Signs of heart failure such as shortness of breath, unexpected weight gain, swelling of your legs or abdomen, feeling unusually tired or waking up short of breath at night

Unexpected passing of urine or need to urinate more often
Problems with the sight including blurred vision and double vision
Change in taste
Certain blood disorders which may increase risk of the infections

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea and vomiting:

Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

Headache:

Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Apply a cold, wet cloth or ice pack to your forehead. Rest in a quiet, comfortable, dark room.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have frequent meals. Keeping a heat pad or a covered hot water pack on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Diarrhea:

Drink lot of fluid, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicine without consulting your doctor.

PREGNANCY
ITASPOR SB is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
ITASPOR SB is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machinery while taking this medicine, it may make you feel dizziness, blurred vision.

ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine.

KIDNEY
ITASPOR SB should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
ITASPOR SB should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic to the medicine.

LUNGS
ITASPOR SB should be taken with caution in patients with lung disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

HEART DISEASE
If you have any heart related problems, consult your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor if you are taking:

Medicines used for hay fever or allergy
Medicines to lower cholesterol
Medicines used for an irregular heartbeat
Medicines used to treat the angina and high blood pressure
Medicines used for migraine headaches called dihydroergotamine and ergotamine
Medicines used for the treatment of drug abuse called levacetylmethadol and methadone
Cisapride
Colchicine (in patients with kidney and liver problems as well)
Eplerenone
Ergometrine (ergonovine) and methylergometrine (methylergonovine)
Halofantrine
