Gatikind Eye Drop (Gatifloxacin 0.3%)

INTRODUCTION

GATIKIND contains Gatifloxacin which belongs to a group of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones. It is indicated to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (infections) and also relieves the symptoms of the infection by stopping further growth of the causative microorganisms. Bacterial conjunctivitis is an infection of the eye’s mucous membrane, the conjunctiva, which extends from the back surface of the eyelids.

Gatifloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic used for bacterial eye infections (conjunctivitis) which works by killing the bacteria that cause infection. It prevents the bacteria from dividing and repairing and stops the action of a bacterial enzyme.

Always use GATIKIND exactly as directed by your doctor. Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have eye diseases or infection. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The common side effects are burning sensation, eye pain or irritation and dry eyes. Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs and symptoms of bacterial infections. The safety and effectiveness in infants below the age of 1 year have not been established.

HOW GATIKIND WORKS

GATIKIND belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones which works by blocking of bacterial DNA replication by binding itself to an enzyme called DNA gyrase.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always use GATIKIND exactly as your doctor has told you. It is for topical ophthalmic use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it and gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid and wipe off extra liquid.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Eye pain or irritation:

Place a cool compress over the eyes, by soaking clean cloth in warm or cold water and then squeezing it out.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
There are no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women, GATIKIND should be used during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Consult your doctor before using.

BREASTFEEDING
There are limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby. GATIKIND should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before using.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or handle any machines if you experience blurred vision while using this medicine.

ALLERGY
