Forcan Injection (Fluconazole) 2mg

INTRODUCTION

FORCAN contains Fluconazole which belongs to a group of medicines called antifungals. It is used to treat the infections caused by fungi and soothes irritated skin and relieves the fungal itch. This medicine works by stopping fungi and yeasts from producing a substance called ergosterol, which is an essential component of their cell membranes. This causes holes to appear in cell membranes, which allows essential constituents of the fungal or yeast cells to leak out.

This medicine will be given by doctor or nurse as a slow injection (infusion) into your vein. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of therapy depending upon your age, weight and condition. It is recommended for the use in children and adolescents as advised by a doctor. Do not take FORCAN if you have abnormal levels of potassium, calcium or magnesium in your blood. It should be used with caution in the pregnant or breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Tell your doctor, if you are taking or taken or might take any other medicines. The most common side effects include headache, stomach discomfort, diarrhea, feeling sick, vomiting, increases in blood tests of liver function and rash.

HOW FORCAN WORKS

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

FORCAN will be given by doctor or nurse as a slow injection (infusion) into your vein. The symptoms of overdose include hearing, seeing, feeling and thinking things that are not real (hallucination and paranoid behaviour). The solution is used for infusion is single use only.

SIDE EFFECTS OF FORCAN

SERIOUS
Adrenal problems include tiredness, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss and abdominal pain
Liver problems such as tiredness, loss of appetite, vomiting, yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes (jaundice)
Sudden wheezing
Difficulty in breathing or tightness in chest
Swelling of eyelids, face or lips
Itching, reddening of the skin or itchy red spots
Skin reactions such as rash that causes the blistering
COMMON
Headache
Stomach discomfort, diarrhea
Feeling sick, vomiting
Increases in blood tests of liver function
Rash
RARE
Hair loss
Red or purple discoloration of the skin
High blood levels of cholesterol, fats
Low blood potassium
Shaking
Change in heart rate or rhythm
Liver failure

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Skin itching:

Avoid bath in hot water because hot water can irritate the skin. Moisturizers can be used regular basis to soothe and hydrate the affected area.

Nausea and vomiting:

Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

Diarrhea:

Drink lot of fluid, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicine without consulting your doctor.

PREGNANCY
FORCAN is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
FORCAN is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machinery while taking this medicine, it may make you feel dizziness.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with FORCAN.

KIDNEY
FORCAN should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
FORCAN should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic to this medicine.

HEART DISEASE
FORCAN should be taken with caution in patients with severe heart disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Do not take FORCAN if you:

Have abnormal levels of potassium, calcium or magnesium in your blood

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor, if you are taking:

Terfenadine or astemizole (an antihistamine for allergies)
Cisapride (used for stomach upsets)
Quinidine (used for treating heart arrhythmia)
Pimozide (for treating a mental disorder (Schizophrenia)
Erythromycin (an antibiotic for treating infections)
