Forcan 150 Tablet (Fluconazole 150mg)

Forcan Tablet 150 mg belongs to the class of medicines called ‘antifungal’ used to treat a broad range of infections caused due to fungi and yeast. A fungal infection is caused when a fungus invades and affects any part of the body, including the mouth, throat, oesophagus, lungs, bladder, genital area, and the blood. Forcan Tablet 150 mg can effectively treat fungal infections, including Vaginal Candidiasis (a vaginal yeast infection caused by Candida), urinary tract infection caused by Candida species of fungi, and cryptococcal meningitis (fungal infection of the brain and spinal cord in AIDS patients). Forcan Tablet 150 mg cannot treat a viral infection like flu or a common cold.

Forcan Tablet 150 mg contains ‘fluconazole’ that kills or prevents fungi or yeast by inhibiting an enzyme in fungi responsible for its normal fat metabolism, which interferes with the formation of the fungal cell membrane. As a result, fungal or yeast cells get killed or its growth is minimized. Forcan Tablet 150 mg is available in the form of oral (tablet and suspension) and injection formulations. You should only take this drug if advised by your doctor. You can take Forcan Tablet 150 mg with or without food.

Forcan Tablet 150 mg has common side effects like headache, diarrhoea, nausea, upset in stomach, dizziness, stomach pain, altered food tastes. You seek immediate medical attention if you experience other side effects such as fever, chills, and symptoms of flu, weakness, easy bruising, seizures, skin rashes, faster or irregular heartbeat, and shortness of breath, clay-coloured stools, and jaundice.

Fungal infections

Forcan Tablet 150 mg works by killing the fungus/yeast and preventing its growth by inhibiting the fungal cell membrane formation. It is used to treat various fungal or yeast infections such as vaginal candidiasis, oropharyngeal candidiasis (thrush, oral thrush), esophageal candidiasis (candida esophagitis), candida infections (urinary tract infections, peritonitis), and cryptococcal meningitis. Besides this, Forcan Tablet 150 mg is also used to prevent candidiasis and coccidioidomycosis in patients who receive cancer or radiation treatment while undergoing bone marrow transplantation. Forcan Tablet 150 mg is effective in treating soft tissue and pulmonary infections when compared to other azole anti-fungal drugs.

The usual daily adult dose of Forcan Tablet 150 mg is 50-400 mg, depending on the type of infection. It comes in oral (tablet and suspension) and intravenous formulations. For a yeast infection, your doctor may advise you to take one pill. For other infections, your first dose may be a double dose. You may take Forcan Tablet 150 mg with or without food. Shake the oral suspension well before use and always use a measuring device for intake. Forcan Tablet 150 mg injection is given into the vein as an infusion. Some serious side effects of Forcan Tablet 150 mg include pounding or irregular heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, extreme tiredness, easy bruising or bleeding, weakness, loss of appetite, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), flu, dark urine, clay-coloured stools, seizures, skin rash and itching, hives, swollen face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs, and difficulty breathing or swallowing.
