Erypro Safe 10000IU Injection (Recombinant Human Erythropoietin Alfa 10000IU)

INTRODUCTION

ERYPRO SAFE 10000IU INJECTION(PFS) contains Erythropoietin alfa which belongs to a group of medicines called Erythropoiesis-Stimulating agent (ESA). It is used to treat symptomatic anaemia caused by kidney disease (in children on haemodialysis, in adults on haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis and in severely anaemic adults not yet undergoing dialysis), anaemia in adults receiving chemotherapy for solid tumors. It is also used to treat moderately anaemic adults who donate their blood before surgery, in patients about to have major orthopaedic surgery and anaemia in patients with a bone marrow disorder that causes a severe disruption in the creation of blood cells (myelodysplastic syndromes).

Erythropoietin alfa (epoetin alfa) is a protein that stimulates the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells which carry haemoglobin (a substance that transports oxygen).

This medicine will be administered by your doctor or nurse by intravenous or subcutaneous route. Before receiving ERYPRO SAFE 10000IU INJECTION(PFS), tell your physician if you have high blood pressure, blood clotting diseases or problems related to liver, kidney and heart. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are recommended to consult the doctor before receiving this medicine. The common side effects are diarrhea, vomiting, headache, redness, burning and pain at the site of injection.

HOW ERYPRO SAFE 10000IU INJECTION(PFS) WORKS
ERYPRO SAFE 10000IU INJECTION(PFS) belongs to erythropoiesis-stimulating agents which works by causing the bone marrow (soft tissue inside the bones where blood is made) to make more red blood cells.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

ERYPRO SAFE 10000IU INJECTION(PFS) will be administered intravenously or subcutaneously (under the skin) by your doctor or nurse.

Unusual tiredness, feeling dizzy, breathlessness (Pure red cell Aplasia)
Increase in levels of small blood cells
Pain, dark coloured urine or increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight (porphyria)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Apply a wet or cold cloth on forehead and rest in a quiet, comfortable and dark room.

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. ORS can also be used to prevent dehydration.

Vomiting:

Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light and bland foods. Avoid sweets.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if you,

Have been diagnosed with Pure Red Cell Aplasia (bone marrow cannot produce enough red blood cells)
Have high blood pressure
Cannot have transfusions with own blood
Are going to have major elective orthopaedic surgery
Have blood clot
Are overweight
Have diabetes
Have epileptic seizures or fits
Have anaemia from other causes
Have porphyria (a rare blood disorder)
Have cancer
Have serious skin reactions
Use in pediatrics:

Your doctor will administer the right dose depends on your child’s age and body weight.
Use in geriatrics:

Dose adjustments may be required for patients with kidney disease, consult your doctor for advice.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug – Drug interactions:

Tell the doctor about all the medications including prescription, non-prescription and herbal supplements.

Cyclosporin (used after kidney transplants)
Iron supplements and other blood stimulants
Overdosage:

Tell the doctor or nurse immediately if you think too much ERYPRO SAFE 10000IU INJECTION(PFS) has been injected.
