Duvanta 20 Tablet (Duloxetine 20mg)

INTRODUCTION

DUVANTA 20 MG contain duloxetine which belongs to a group of medicine called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It is used in adults to treat depression, generalized anxiety disorder and diabetic neuropathic pain. It works by increasing the levels of chemical messengers such as serotonin and noradrenaline, natural substances in the brain that help maintain mental balance and stop the movement of pain signals in the brain.

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest which affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. Generalized anxiety disorder is a long-term condition that causes you to feel anxious most days and often struggle to remember the last time they felt relaxed. Diabetic neuropathy is a type of nerve damage characterized by tingling, burning, sharp, shooting, and lancinating or even as electric shock sensations that can occur if you have diabetes. High blood sugar (glucose) can injure nerves throughout your body.

Always take Duvanta 20 exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. It is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine as it may cause sleepiness or dizziness. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine. The most common side effects are nausea, headache, dry mouth, trouble sleeping.

Always take DUVANTA 20MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. Try to take his medicine at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.

Nausea and vomiting:

Try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

Dry mouth:

Chew sugar-free gum or suck sugar-free hard candies. Control caffeine intake. Do not use mouthwashes. Sip water regularly.

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Constipation: 

Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lot of fluid such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines without talking to a doctor.

Stomach pain:

Keep try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly and smaller and frequent meals. Applying a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

• Antibiotic such as linezolid (used to treat infection)
• Medicines such as triptans, tramadol, tryptophan
• SSRIs such as paroxetine and fluoxetine
• SNRIs such as venlafaxine
• St John’s Wort (hypericum perforatum)
• Medicines with oral anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents (used to prevent blood clot)
