INTRODUCTION

DALACIN C 600MG contains Clindamycin which belongs to the group of medicines called antibiotics. It fights against bacteria and germs and used in the treatment of severe bacterial infections. It acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis which stops bacterial growth and prevents further spread of infection. It is usually reserved for the treatment of serious infections, especially when other antibiotics are not effective and when the bacteria-causing infection are susceptible for clindamycin.

Depending upon your age, body weight and type of infection, your doctor will decide a suitable dose for you. Continue to take this medicine, as long as your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results. Patients receiving this medicine for a very long time should regularly undergo blood tests and/or liver and kidney functioning.

The most common side effects of this medicine are diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms bothers you. However, if you experience severe persistent bloody diarrhea following treatment with DALACIN C 600MG, contact your doctor immediately, as it could be a sign of colitis (inflammation of the colon). Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any serious kidney or liver disease. Proper dose adjustments and regular monitoring of amount of clindamycin in blood are required in such patients. It should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women and in children. Consult your doctor before taking.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

This medicine will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse into the muscle (intramuscularly) or vein (as intravenous infusion). Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and type of infection. Continue to take this medicine, as long as your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea or vomiting:

Try taking this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Do not eat rich or spicy food.

Diarrhea:

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or juice, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any medicines without speaking to a doctor.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have smaller and frequent meals. Keeping a heat pad on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Skin irritation:

Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin. Do not rub or scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Regularly use moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. If it does not get better, speak to your doctor.

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor, if you are taking:

Erythromycin (an antibiotic used to treat infections)
Muscle relaxants used for operations (e.g. baclofen, dantrolene, diazepam)
Oral contraceptives (birth control pills)
Warfarin or similar medicines (used to thin your blood)
