Buscogast 20 mg Injection contains Hyoscine butylbromide. It is used to treat pain due to muscle spasms or cramps in conditions like kidney stones and gall bladder stones.

Buscogast 20 mg Injection is also used to reduce pain in pyelography (imaging of the urinary collecting system). This medicine also helps in diagnostic procedures like endoscopy (a procedure where organs inside your body are looked at by using an instrument called an endoscope), where spasms and pain are the major issues. Proper supervision is needed while using it in diagnostic procedures.

Buscogast 20 mg Injection should be given in the hospital setting by a qualified healthcare professional. Your doctor will prescribe this medicine when its oral form (medicine taken through mouth) does not provide relief from cramps in kidney stones or gall bladder stone conditions. What is it prescribed for?
Acute spasm of gastrointestinal and genito-urinary tract
Buscogast 20 mg Injection is used to relieve cramps associated with the gastrointestinal (stomach and intestine) and the genito-urinary tract (kidneys, ureter, urinary bladder, urethra and genitalia). Furthermore, this medicine effectively provides relief from cramps or spasms and pain due to the presence of kidney stones and gall bladder stones.
Endoscopy or Radiology premedication
Buscogast 20 mg Injection is given prior to certain specific diagnostic and radiologic procedures such as pyelography, endoscopy, etc. to prevent smooth muscle spasms (cramps) in the stomach and intestines and in the bladder and urethra.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid receiving Buscogast 20 mg Injection if you have a known allergy to Hyoscine butylbromide. Seek medical attention if you experience any undesirable effects such as skin rash, hives, swelling ( of face, lips, tongue), etc.
Myasthenia gravis
Myasthenia gravis is a condition in which the normal communication between muscle and nerves gets altered. It is characterized by weakness and rapid fatigue of the muscles that are under the body’s control (voluntary control). Buscogast 20 mg Injection may suppress the communication between the muscle and nerves leading to worsening of the condition.
Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
Narrow-angle glaucoma is caused by blocked drainage canals in the eye, resulting in a sudden rise in the intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eyeballs). This is a much more rare form of glaucoma, which develops very quickly and demands immediate medical attention. Buscogast 20 mg Injection may worsen the condition by increasing the pressure in the eyes. Hence, it is not recommended to use this medicine in this condition.
Megacolon
Megacolon is the abnormal dilation (widening) of the colon. It may be the complication of problems such as Inflammatory bowel disease and Crohn’s disease (swelling of the intestine). Buscogast 20 mg Injection is not recommended for use in people having megacolon due to the increased risk of colon relaxation and further serious adverse effects.
Paralytic or obstructive ileus
Paralytic or obstructive ileus is a condition in which there is a blockage in the intestine without any physical obstruction. It may occur due to the impairment of nerves and muscles of the intestine. Buscogast 20 mg Injection may increase the risk of this condition as it may worsen the obstruction
