INTRODUCTION
ALPHAGAN contains Brimonidine which are Antiglaucoma agents. These are sterile, preserved, aqueous solution works by reducing pressure within the eyeball. It is used to treat the conditions of glaucoma or ocular hypertension (pressure in the eye). Glaucoma is a condition which damages the optic nerve, the health of which is vital for good vision. It is often caused by an abnormally high pressure in your eye. Ocular hypertension is a condition where the pressure inside the eye is higher than normal. In this condition the front of the eye does not drain aqueous humor (fluid in the eye) properly which causes eye pressure to build up.
Brimonidine has an effective ocular hypotensive effect which occurs at two hours post instillation. It works by reducing aqueous humor (fluid in the eye) production and increasing outflow of aqueous humor (uveoscleral outflow) and thus lowers the eye pressure. This medicine can be used alone or in conjunction with another eye drop that reduces pressure in the eye. It is for external use only. Tell your doctor if you wear contact lenses, before using the medication. It is not recommended for children between the ages of 2 and 12 years of age. The common side effects are allergic reactions, eye irritation and blurred or abnormal vision.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness or drowsiness:
Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.
Feeling sick (nausea) or indigestion:
Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.
Dry mouth:
Chew sugar free candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Limit your caffeine intake.
