Zupaxel 300mg Injection (Paclitaxel 300mg)

INTRODUCTION

ZUPAXEL 300MG contains Paclitaxel which belongs to a group of anti-cancer medicines called Taxanes. It is used to treat various forms of ovarian cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer and Kaposi’s sarcoma. Cancer is a disease in which some of the body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body. This medicine will be given as an injection by a healthcare professional.

Paclitaxel belongs to antineoplastic agents, which works by interfering with the microtubule structures (they help the cancer cells to divide and multiply). This slows the growth of cancer cells and eventually destroys them.

Before receiving ZUPAXEL 300MG, tell your doctor about your complete medical history including infections, heart-problem, liver impairment, kidney malfunction and low white blood cell counts. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The common side effects are dizziness, nausea, vomiting, weakness, tiredness and hair loss. Women of childbearing potential should be advised to avoid becoming pregnant.

HOW ZUPAXEL 300MG WORKS

ZUPAXEL 300MG works by stopping cancer cells from separating into two new cells and blocks the growth of the cancer.

ZUPAXEL 300MG will be administered into a vein by your doctor or nurse.

SERIOUS
Trouble breathing
Sudden swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat and swallowing trouble
Hives (raised bumps) or rash
Stomach pain
Severe diarrhea
COMMON
Low red blood cell count (anemia)
Feeling weak or tired
Hair loss
Numbness, tingling or burning in hands or feet (neuropathy)
Joint and muscle pain
Nausea and vomiting
Mouth or lip sores (mucositis)
Infections
Swelling of hands, face or feet
Bleeding events
Irritation at the injection site
Low blood pressure (hypotension)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea:

Take routine meals and avoid spicy foods.

Vomiting:

Drink clear or ice-cold drinks and avoid sweets.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
ZUPAXEL 300MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor for advice.

BREASTFEEDING
It is not known whether ZUPAXEL 300MG is excreted in human milk. Consult your doctor for advice.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or handle heavy machines if you experience dizziness while receiving this medicine.

KIDNEY
There are limited studies available on the use of ZUPAXEL 300MG in patients with kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
ZUPAXEL 300MG is not commended for patients with severe liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Paclitaxel.

HEART DISEASE
ZUPAXEL 300MG should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Do not receive this medicine if you have,

Low white blood cell counts (neutrophil count)
Serious and uncontrolled infection
Use in pediatrics:

ZUPAXEL 300MG is not recommended for use in children below 18 years due to lack of data on safety and efficacy.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug – Drug interactions:

Inform your physician if you are taking,

Erythromycin, rifampicin (treats infections)
Ketoconazole (treats fungal infections)
Fluoxetine (used to stabilize your mood)
Carbamazepine, phenytoin (treats epilepsy)
Gemfibrozil (lower lipid levels)
Cimetidine (used for heartburn)
Ritonavir, saquinavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, efavirenz, nevirapine (used to treat HIV and AIDS)
Clopidogrel (used to prevent blood clots)
Overdosage:

There is no known antidote for ZUPAXEL 300MG over dosage. In case of overdose, it should be closely monitored.
