Voxamin 100mg Tablet is an antidepressant medicine that contains Fluvoxamine. It is used in the treatment of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (also known as OCD, it is a mental condition in which the person has re-occurring and uncontrollable thoughts, causing an urge to perform some tasks over and over again). Voxamin 100 mg Tablet works by increasing the level of a chemical substance in the brain and helps to relieve the symptoms of depression and OCD.

Voxamin 100mg Tablet may cause side effects like nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, difficulty in sleeping, and fatigue. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration or worsen. It may also cause dizziness or sleepiness. Hence, avoid performing activities that require mental alertness, such as driving vehicles or operating machines. Avoid taking this medicine if you are allergic to it.

Allergy

Avoid taking Voxamin 100 mg Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI)

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are a class of medicines used to treat depression. Voxamin 100 mg Tablet is not recommended for use during treatment with MAOIs (Rasagiline, Selegiline, etc.) as it may cause serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is a life-threatening condition characterised by hallucination, high heart rate, high blood pressure, dizziness, excessive sweating, high fever, seizures, vomiting, diarrhoea, etc.

After stopping the treatment with MAOIs, a time gap of at least 14 days should be maintained before starting the treatment with Voxamin 100 mg Tablet.

Pregnancy

Voxamin 100 mg Tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy as it may harm your foetus. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant.

Breast-feeding

Voxamin 100 mg Tablet passes into the breastmilk in small quantities. This medicine is not recommended for use if you are breastfeeding.

Discontinuation of treatment

Voxamin 100 mg Tablet should not be discontinued suddenly as it may result in withdrawal symptoms such as headache, weakness, fatigue, sleep disturbances, irritability, confusion, palpitation, etc. Gradual dose reduction should be done over a period under your doctor’s supervision.

Hyponatraemia

Voxamin 100 mg Tablet may cause hyponatraemia in some cases. This risk is especially high in the elderly and in people who are volume-depleted (low extracellular fluid in the body) or taking diuretics (medicines that increase water and salt excretion from the body). Blood pressure and sodium levels will be closely monitored by the doctor in such cases.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Voxamin 100 mg Tablet as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume at the scheduled time. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.
