Introduction:

Voveran emulgel can be used topically to treat pain and inflammation in conditions like osteoarthritis of superficial joints such as the knee, localized forms of soft tissue rheumatism, trauma of tendons, ligaments, muscle and joints e.g. due to sprains, strains and bruises. It contains diclofenac sodium which belongs to a group of medicines called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Diclofenac is a phenylacetic acid derivative which leads to inhibition of cyclooxygenase activity, which in turn leads to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis and other infl­ammatory mediators. It acts as anti-infl­ammatory and analgesic agent in the treatment of mild to moderate muscle pains, contusions and post-traumatic pain. Voveran emulgel is intended for use in adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over.

Voveran emulgel must not be used during the last 3 months of pregnancy, as it could harm your unborn child or cause problems at delivery. Apply thin layers of this gel in the affected area, 3 to 4 times daily or as directed by your physician and rub gently. The treatment duration depends on the indications and on the response to the treatment. Do not apply this gel on broken or denuded skin.

How to manage side effects:

Skin redness or rash:

Avoid hot showers or baths because hot water can irritate the skin. Make sure to pat dry your skin after a bath or shower. Do not rub or scratch the affected area. Leave the skin exposed to the air as much as possible. If it does not get better within a week, speak to a doctor.

Safety advice:

• Always apply this medicine as directed by your healthcare professional.
• It is for external use only.
• Apply thin layers of this gel in the affected area, 3 to 4 times daily and rub gently.
• Never exceed your doctor’s recommended dose.
• Avoid contact into your eyes. If this happens rinse your eyes with clean water and tell your doctor.
• Voveral emulgel must be applied to intact skin and not be rubbed into open wounds, cuts or any other area where the skin is abnormal.
• After rubbing the gel into the skin, do not cover with bandages or sticking plaster.
• Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to diclofenac or any other painkillers (e.g. aspirin or ibuprofen).
• Do not use this medicine if you are an asthmatic.
• Do not use this medicine in children below 14 years of age.
• This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
• This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from bleeding disorder, gastrointestinal disorders, liver or kidney disease.
