INTRODUCTION
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG is a combination of Flupenthixol and Melitracen which belongs to the group of medicines called Antipsychotics and Tricyclic antidepressants respectively. It is used in the treatment of neurasthenia (condition that causes physical and mental exhaustion usually with accompanying symptoms (such as headache and irritability)), psychogenic depression, depressive neuroses, masked depression, menopausal depression, dysphoria (profound state of unease or dissatisfaction) and depression in alcoholics and drug-addicts, psychosomatic affections that is accompanied by anxiety and apathy.
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest that affects a person how he feels, thinks and behaves leading to a variety of emotional and physical problems associated with symptoms such as changes in sleep, appetite and daily behaviour. Anxiety is a feeling of fear, dread, and uneasiness which is generally characterized by symptoms such as fast heart rate, rapid breathing, sweating and tiredness.
Avoid taking VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG if you have mania or heart diseases such as circulatory collapse, depressed level of consciousness, blood disorders, hereditary problems of galactose (sugar) intolerance. Before taking VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG, inform your doctor if you have convulsions, organic brain syndrome, history of suicide related events, diabetes, planned surgeries, reduced liver or kidney function.
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless clearly advised by the doctor and it should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it can pass through breast milk. VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 18 years of age) and it should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 75 years).
The most common side effects of taking VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG are sleeplessness, restlessness, agitation, dizziness, tremor (involuntary movement of muscles), dry mouth and constipation. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect gets worsen.

HOW VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG WORKS
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG is a combination flupenthixol and melitracen, where flupenthixol works by preventing the effects of dopamine, a brain chemical messenger that influences thoughts and mood. Melitracen increases the level of chemical messengers in the brain which results in regulating the mood and treats depression.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Stop taking VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Suicidal behaviour or thoughts
- Unusual changes in behaviour
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness:
Lie down until dizziness is gone, then get up slowly. Move slowly and carefully, do not hurry. Get adequate rest and sleep. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Dry mouth:
Sip water regularly and other sugar free liquids. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can make your mouth dry, use mouthwash that is used only for dry mouth. Limit your caffeine intake. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Constipation:
Try to eat high-fiber foods such as vegetables, cereals, fresh fruit, and drink plenty of water. Involve in regular exercise (going for a daily walk or run) and if this does not help, consult your doctor for receiving alternate treatment for constipation.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it can pass through breast milk. The breast-fed infant should be kept under observation especially during first 4 weeks after being born. Consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel altered general attention and concentration after taking VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG as it may enhance the effects of alcohol.
KIDNEY
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG should be used with caution in patients having reduced kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking it.
LIVER
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG should be used with caution in patients having advanced hepatic impairment and reduced liver function. Consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
Do not take VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG if you are allergic to Flupenthixol or Melitracen.
HEART DISEASE
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG is not recommended for use in patients having heart diseases such as recent myocardial infarction (heart attack), any degree of heart block, disorders of cardiac rhythm and coronary artery insufficiency. Consult your doctor before taking it.
OTHERS
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG is not recommended for use if you have:
- Circulatory collapse
- Depressed level of consciousness due to any cause
- Blood disorders
- Phaeochromocytoma (neuroendocrine tumor)
- Hereditary problems related to galactose intolerance, total lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption
- Excitability, overactivity, or maniac
- Dementia-related behavioural disturbance
Before taking VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG, inform your doctor if you have:
- Convulsions (fits)
- Organic brain syndrome
- Urinary retention
- Signs of hyperthyroidism such as unintentional weight loss, rapid and irregular heartbeat
- History of suicide related events
- Diabetes (high blood sugar)
- Schedule for any planned surgeries
Use in paediatrics:
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Consult child’s doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:
VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 75 years). Consult your doctor before taking VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug – Drug Interactions:
Before taking VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG, inform your doctor if you have received or taking any of the following medicines:
- Medicines used to treat depression such as monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOIs) (Ex. moclobemide, selegiline), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (Ex. citalopram)
- Medicines used to treat nasal congestion (Ex. phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine)
- Medicines used in general anaesthetics (Ex. adrenaline, ephedrine, isoprenaline, noradrenaline)
- Medicines used in antihypertensive therapies (Ex. guanethidine, betanidine, reserpine and clonidine)
- Anticholinergic agents (Ex. darifenacin) (used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder)
- Medicines used to treat mental illness (Ex. lithium), parkinson’s disease (Ex. levodopa)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of VERSIDEP 0.5/10MG, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage are excessive sleepiness, irritability, agitation, hallucinations, dilated pupils, fast or irregular heartbeat, cardiac failure, low blood pressure, cardiogenic shock, urinary retention, mucosal dryness, intestinal hypomotility (infrequent bowel movements), convulsions, fever, depressed level of consciousness, coma, respiratory depression, metabolic acidosis (serious electrolyte imbalance), and low potassium levels.
