Terbitotal Tablet (Terbinafine 250mg)

INTRODUCTION

TERBITOTAL 250MG contains Terbinafine which belongs to Antifungal agents, used to treat fungal infections of the skin and nails. It acts by attacking and killing fungus which causes infection. This medicine has a broad spectrum of antifungal activity. At low concentrations it is fungicidal against dermatophytes, molds and certain dimorphic fungi. Terbinafine interferes with the production of ergosterol and causes a buildup of another substance called squalene in the fungal cell. This leads to a deficiency in ergosterol and to an intracellular accumulation of squalene, resulting in fungal cell death. Both actions cause the death of the fungus and elimination of the infection.

Always take as prescribed by your doctor. Before taking this TERBITOTAL 250MG, inform your doctor if you are allergic to antibiotics or having kidney or liver problems and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not recommended for use in children. Do not drive or operate any machines while taking this medicine as it may cause dizziness or fatigue. The common side effects are headache, rash and diarrhoea.

HOW TERBITOTAL 250MG WORKS

TERBITOTAL 250MG works by interfering in the production of a substance (ergosterol) that the fungus needs to grow and causes a buildup of another substance in the cells (squalene). Both actions cause the death of the fungus and elimination of the infection.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take this medicine according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break the medicine. It may be taken with or without food.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Feeling sick (nausea) or indigestion:

Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. ORS should be used to prevent dehydration.

PREGNANCY
TERBITOTAL 250MG should be used with caution in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
TERBITOTAL 250MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines while taking this medicine as it may cause dizziness or fatigue.

KIDNEY
TERBITOTAL 250MG is not recommended in patients with active kidney diseases. Before taking, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

LIVER
TERBITOTAL 250MG is not recommended in patients with active liver diseases. Before taking, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Terbinafine or any ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you had or have a condition such as:

Psoriasis
Lupus erythematosus

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:

Rifampicin
Cimetidine
Amitriptyline or desipramine
Fluoxetine or paroxetine
Moclobemide
Atenolol, metoprolol or propranolol
Oral contraceptives
Antiarrhythmics
Ciclosporin
Fluconazole, ketoconazole
