Retoz MR 4 Tablet (Etoricoxib 60mg / Thiocolchicoside 4mg)

INTRODUCTION

Retoz-MR 4 contains Etoricoxib which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It helps in reducing pain and swelling in the joints and muscles of people aged 16 years and older with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and gout. It is also used as a short-term treatment of moderate pain after dental surgery in people 16 years of age and older.

Arthritis is a condition resulting from gradual breakdown of cartilage that cushions ends of the bones resulting in swelling, pain, tenderness and stiffness of joints. Inflammatory disease of spine and large joints is termed as ankylosing spondylitis. Gout is a condition characterized by sudden, recurring attacks of painful inflammation and redness in joints due to deposition of mineral crystals in the joint.

Always take this medicine exactly as doctor has told you. It can be taken with or without food. RETOZ MR 4MG is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 16 years of age. Do not drive or use tools or machines if you experience dizziness or sleepiness. The most common side effects are stomach pain, swelling of legs and/or feet due to the fluid retention, dizziness, headache, palpitations, irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasms), constipation, gastritis, heartburn, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea and vomiting.

HOW RETOZ MR 4MG WORKS

Retoz-MR 4 works by blocking the action of a substance in body called cyclo-oxygenase. Cyclo-oxygenase in response to injury or diseases produce prostaglandins which cause the pain, swelling and inflammation. This inhibition results analgesics and anti-inflammatory action.

SIDE EFFECTS OF Retoz-MR 4

SERIOUS
Shortness of breath, chest pain
Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
Severe or continual stomach pain
Allergic reaction which include skin problems such as ulcers or blistering, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat which may cause difficulty in breathing
COMMON
Stomach pain
Swelling of legs and/or feet due to the fluid retention
Dizziness, headache
Palpitations, irregular heartbeat
Increased blood pressure
Wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasms)
Constipation
Gastritis, heartburn
Diarrhea, indigestion
Nausea, vomiting
Inflammation of the oesophagus, mouth ulcers
Changes in the blood tests related to your liver
Bruising
Weakness and fatigue
RARE
Confusion, restlessness
Inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
Low blood levels of the sodium which can cause tiredness and confusion, muscle twitching, fits and coma
Severe skin reactions

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Skin itching:

Avoid bath in hot water because hot water can irritate the skin. Moisturizers can be used regular basis to soothe and hydrate the affected area.

Nausea and vomiting:

Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.

Diarrhea:

Drink lot of fluid, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicine without consulting your doctor.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
RETOZ MR 4MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
RETOZ MR 4MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machinery while taking this medicine, it may make you feel dizziness or sleepiness.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with this medicine.

KIDNEY
RETOZ MR 4MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
RETOZ MR 4MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic to the medicine.

HEART DISEASE
If you have any heart related problems, consult your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.

OTHERS

Do not take RETOZ MR 4MG if you have a history of stomach bleeding or ulcers.

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor if you are taking:

Anticoagulants such as warfarin
Rifampicin (an antibiotic)
Methotrexate (treat rheumatoid arthritis)
Ciclosporin or tacrolimus (immunosuppressant)
Lithium (used to treat depression)
Medicines used to help control high blood pressure and heart failure
Salbutamol (a medicine for asthma)
