Raciper IV Injection (Esomeprazole 40mg)

INTRODUCTION

RACIPER 40MG contain esomeprazole which belongs to a group of medicine called proton pump inhibitors. It is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in both adults and adolescents, stomach ulcers caused by pain killers such as NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) in adults. It also helps in preventing rebleeding followed by therapeutic endoscopy done for acute bleeding gastric or duodenal ulcers.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a condition where the acid in the stomach acid frequently flows back into the oesophagus (a tube connecting your mouth and stomach). This acid reflux can irritate the lining of your oesophagus. It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid related indigestion and heartburn.

RACIPER 40MG can be given to children and adolescents aged 1-18 years and adults, including the elderly. It will be administered by a doctor or nurse. Inform your doctor before taking this medicine, if you have ever had kidney, heart or liver disease. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

HOW RACIPER 40MG WORKS

RACIPER 40MG works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid related indigestion and heartburn.

RACIPER 40MG will be administered by a doctor or nurse.

SIDE EFFECTS OF RACIPER 40MG

SERIOUS
Severe allergic reaction (such as sudden wheezing, swelling of your lips, tongue and throat or body, rash, fainting or difficulties in swallowing)
Reddening of the skin with blister or peeling. There may also be severe blisters and bleeding in the lips, eyes, mouth, nose, and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis)
Liver problems (such as yellow skin, dark urine, and tiredness)
COMMON
Headache
Diarrhoea
Stomach pain
Constipation
Wind (flatulence)
Nausea, vomiting
Injection site reaction
Benign polyps in the stomach
RARE
Blood problem such as reduced number of white cell or platelet
Low levels of sodium in the blood
Feeling agitated, confused, or depressed
Taste changes
Eyesight problems such as blurred vision
Suddenly feeling wheezy or short of breath
Inflammation of the inside of the mouth
Thrush infection
Hair loss (alopecia)
Skin rash on exposure to sunshine
Joint pains (arthralgia) or muscle pains (myalgia)
Generally feeling unwell and lacking energy
Increased sweating

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lot of fluid such as water or juice, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any medicines without speaking to a doctor.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. eat and drink slowly and smaller and frequent meals. Applying a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Constipation:

Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

Nausea and vomiting:

Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
RACIPER 40MG should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

BREASTFEEDING
RACIPER 40MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dizziness and blurred vision.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with RACIPER 40MG.

KIDNEY
RACIPER 40MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
RACIPER 40MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take RACIPER 40MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to esomeprazole or any other ingredients in this medicine.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,

Skin reaction
Osteoporosis

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor if you are taking,

Nelfinavir, atazanavir (used to treat HIV infection)
Clopidogrel (used to prevent blood clots)
Ketoconazole, itraconazole or voriconazole (used to treat fungal infection)
Erlotinib, methotrexate (used to treat cancer)
Citalopram, imipramine, clomipramine (used to treat depression)
Diazepam (used to treat anxiety, relax muscles)
Phenytoin (used to treat epilepsy)
Warfarin (used for thin blood)
Cilostazol (used to treat intermittent claudication)
Cisapride (used to treat indigestion and heartburn)
Digoxin (used to treat heart problems)
Tacrolimus (used for organ transplantation)
Rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis)
St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) (used to treat depression)
