Description
Rabifast 20 MG Tablet is an anti-ulcer medicine that contains Rabeprazole. It is used to treat acid-related conditions of the stomach and intestine such as acid reflux, peptic ulcers, and some other stomach conditions associated with excessive acid production. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in your stomach.
Rabifast 20 MG Tablet may cause side effects like nausea, vomiting, headache, stomach pain, diarrhoea, and dizziness. These symptoms are mild and resolve with time. Inform your doctor if any of these side effects persist for a long time or bother you. The chance of side effects may increase if you use this medication for a longer period (more than one year). Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to it. Avoid performing activities like driving vehicles or operating machines after taking this medicine.
Rabifast 20 MG Tablet is a prescription medicine. Take this medicine 30 minutes before breakfast. The dose of medicine will be determined by your doctor based on your condition. Take it at the same time every day for the ease of remembering. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor.
Rabifast 20 MG Tablet is not recommended for use in children under the age of 12 years. Before taking this medicine, Inform your doctor if you have a history of osteoporosis (a condition with weak and brittle bones) or pre-existing liver problems. Also, inform your doctor of all the medicines that you may be taking as this information is critical for planning your overall treatment. This medicine is not recommended for use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What is it prescribed for?
Erosive Esophagitis
Esophagitis is swelling of the oesophagus, the tube that carries food from your mouth to the stomach. It occurs when excess acid produced in your stomach flows back into the oesophagus. It can also be caused due to an infection or irritation of the oesophagus. These can damage the lining of your oesophagus, resulting in a condition called erosive oesophagitis. Rabifast 20 MG Tablet is used to treat erosive esophagitis by decreasing the production of stomach acid.
Gastroesophagal Reflux Disease
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), also known as acid reflux, is a condition in which the stomach acid or bile flows back into the oesophagus (food pipe) and irritates the lining of the food pipe. Symptoms may include belching (also known as burping, which is the release of excess air from the stomach through the mouth), heartburn (burning sensation in the chest), nausea, dry cough, etc. Rabifast 20 MG Tablet is used in the treatment of GERD.
Helicobacter pylori Infection
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection occurs when H. pylori bacteria infect your stomach. It causes gastritis (swelling of the lining of the stomach) and peptic ulcers (sores in the lining of the stomach). This infection can be transmitted from person to person. Rabifast 20 MG Tablet in combination with antibiotics is used to treat and prevent Helicobacter Pylori infection.
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome is a condition in which tumours (abnormal growth of body tissue) form in your pancreas (an organ located behind the stomach) and duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). These tumours produce a hormone called gastrin which in turn causes excessive stomach acid. Rabifast 20 MG Tablet is used to reduce the amount of acid produced in your stomach due to tumours.
Gastric and duodenal ulcers
Gastric and duodenal ulcers are open sores on the inner lining of the stomach and duodenum (the first part of the small intestine) respectively. Symptoms may include stomach pain, bloating, burping, heartburn (burning sensation in the chest), nausea, etc. Rabifast 20 MG Tablet is used to treat and prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers.

When not to use?
Allergy
Avoid taking Rabifast 20 MG Tablet if you are previously allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling of the face/tongue/throat, breathing difficulty, etc.

Pregnancy

Breast-feeding
It is not known if Rabifast 20 MG Tablet passes into breast milk or not. If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
General warnings
Lupus erythematosus
Lupus erythematosus is an auto-immune condition (your immune system malfunctions and attacks its own healthy tissues) that causes rashes or sores on the sun-exposed areas of your skin. Rabifast 20 MG Tablet may increase the risk of Lupus erythematosus. Inform your doctor if you experience any skin rash/sore while on treatment with this medicine.
Hypomagnesaemia
Prolonged use of Rabifast 20 MG Tablet may increase the risk of hypomagnesaemia (low blood magnesium levels). Inform your doctor if you experience any symptoms of numbness/tingling in your hands/feet, muscle cramps, seizures (fits), irregular heartbeat, etc.
Vitamin B12 deficiency
Long-term treatment with Rabifast 20 MG Tablet may decrease the absorption of vitamin B12 in your body. This may cause vitamin B12 deficiency. Your vitamin B12 levels need to be monitored while on treatment with this medicine.
Driving vehicles or operating machines
Rabifast 20 MG Tablet may cause dizziness. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience any symptoms that may affect your mental alertness after taking this medicine.
Other medicines
Rabifast 20 MG Tablet may interact with other medicines and cause undesirable effects. Hence, inform your doctor about your current medicines including any herbs and supplements before beginning treatment with this medicine.
Dosage
Missed Dose
Do not skip any dose of Rabifast 20 MG Tablet. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember (make sure that you are on empty stomach). If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double your dose to compensate for the missed one.
Overdose
Never take more than the prescribed dose. Contact your doctor if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Rabifast 20 MG Tablet.
Interactions
General Instructions
Rabifast 20 MG Tablet is used for reducing stomach acid production. This medicine makes you feel better in 2-3 days and gives complete relief in 4-5 weeks. Take Rabifast 20 MG Tablet as prescribed by your doctor.
Avoid spicy and fatty foods, alcohol, and caffeinated drinks or beverages such as coffee, tea and cola while using Rabifast 20 MG Tablet, for better results.
Eat a healthy and balanced diet. Always try to finish your dinner three hours before heading to bed.
Inform your doctor if you do not feel better even after 14 days of treatment.
If you experience reduced urine output, oedema (swelling caused by fluid retention), lower back discomfort, nausea, tiredness, and a rash or fever while taking this medicine, contact your doctor immediately. These symptoms might indicate kidney disease.
Keep the medicine away from the reach of children and pets. Ensure that unused medicine is disposed of properly.
