Prilox Cream 5mg (Prilocaine 2.5% / Lidocaine 2.5%)

Description

Prilox Cream is a combination medicine composed of Lidocaine and Prilocaine. It is used as a topical anesthetic that may cause numbness in the surrounding skin. It is also used to numb the skin before medical procedures such as inserting a needle, skin grafts, or skin laser surgery. This medicine works by blocking the pain signals from the applied area to the brain.

Prilox Cream can cause side effects like redness, pigmentation, blanching (whitish colouration of the skin) etc. at the applied area. Most of these are temporary and resolve on their own. Consult your doctor if these side effects are getting persistent or worse.

Prilox Cream is meant for external use only and should not be used in or near the eyes and ears. Your doctor can perform a patch test (a procedure done on your skin) if you are using it for the first time.

Prilox Cream is not recommended if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor about your current medications and existing medical conditions. This will help your doctor to adjust your dose for avoiding side effects. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using this medicine.

When not to use?

Allergy
Prilox Cream is not recommended if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of your face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Methemoglobinemia
Methemoglobinemia (MetHb) is a blood disorder in which an abnormal amount of methemoglobin is produced. Methemoglobin is a form of haemoglobin (a protein in red blood cells that carries and distributes oxygen to the body). Prilox Cream is not recommended for use if you have/had methemoglobinemia.

Pregnancy
Prilox Cream is not recommended for use in pregnant women as not enough studies are done to understand its safety and efficacy. Consult your doctor before using this medicine.
Breast-feeding
Prilox Cream passes into the breast milk. Therefore, consult your doctor before using this medicine.
General warnings
Driving or operating machinery
Prilox Cream may cause dizziness or drowsiness. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness like driving vehicles or operating machines while receiving this medicine.
Other medicines
Prilox Cream may interact with many other medicines and may cause severe side effects. Hence, it is advised that you inform your doctor about all your current medicines including any herbs and supplements before beginning treatment with this medicine.
External use only
Prilox Cream is recommended for external use only. Avoid contact with your eyes, ears, or open wounds.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Since Prilox Cream is mostly applied before and during a medical procedure, the likelihood of missing a dose is very less.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical treatment in case of an overdose of Prilox Cream.
