Prax 5 Tablet (Prasugrel 5mg)

INTRODUCTION

PRAX 5MG contains Prasugrel which belongs to a group of medicines called antiplatelet agents. Platelets are very small cell particles that circulate in the blood. When a blood vessel is damaged, platelets clump together to help form a blood clot. When clots form in a blood vessel such as artery, they cut off the blood supply to the heart resulting in heart attack (myocardial infarction), stroke or death. Therefore it is essential to stop bleeding.

It is indicated to prevent blood clot in patients with acute coronary syndrome. It is also given along with other medications in patients who has been treated with a procedure to open blocked arteries and have had one or more stents placed in the heart to prevent stent clotting. It reduces the chances of having a further heart attack or stroke due to any one of these cardiovascular events.

Take PRAX 5MG according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine whole, do not crush or chew. It can be taken with or without food. It is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Before taking, inform your doctor if you have any bleeding condition, severe liver disease, pregnant or breastfeeding. The common side effect is bleeding like bruising, nose bleeds, and blood in urine.

USES OF PRAX 5MG

Prevent blood clot in patients with acute coronary syndrome
Prevent stent clotting in patients undergone procedure to open blocked arteries

HOW PRAX 5MG WORKS

PRAX 5MG stops the aggregation of platelets by blocking a substance called ADP from binding to a receptor (target) on their surface. This stops the platelets becoming ‘sticky’ and reduces the risk of a blood clot formation, thus helping to prevent a heart attack or a stroke.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take PRAX 5MG according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine whole, do not crush or chew. It can be taken with or without food.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Skin rash:

Avoid bath in hot water because hot water can irritate the skin. Moisturizers can be used regular basis to soothe and hydrate the affected area.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
PRAX 5MG should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

BREASTFEEDING
PRAX 5MG should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
This medicine is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or operate machines.

KIDNEY
PRAX 5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
PRAX 5MG is not recommended in patients with severe liver diseases. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Prasugrel or any other ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

Inform your doctor if you have or had,

Any bleeding disorders
Stroke or a transient ischaemic attack
Any serious injury

INTERACTIONS

Inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following,

Clopidogrel, warfarin (used to treat blood clot)
Ibuprofen, naproxen, etoricoxib (used to treat pain or fever)
Morphine or other opioids (used to treat severe pain)
