Perinorm 10mg Tablet (Metoclopramide 10mg )

INTRODUCTION

PERINORM contains Metoclopramide which belongs to a group of medicines called anti-emetics. It is used to prevent delayed nausea and vomiting (may occur after chemotherapy and radiotherapy) and also treats nausea and vomiting which may occur with a migraine. This medicine can be taken with oral painkillers in case of migraine to help painkillers work more effectively. It also improves gastric emptying by restoring normal coordination and tone to the upper digestive tract. Take the medicine according to the dose and duration as advised by your doctor.

Metoclopramide antagonizes the effect of dopamine in the central nervous system and other organ systems. This action helps to reduce feelings of sickness (nausea) and helps stops vomiting.

Always take PERINORM exactly as directed by your doctor. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have or had any kidney, liver or heart impairment, epilepsy or bleeding disorders. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers consult your doctor before taking the medicine. It is not suitable for use in children below 1 year of age. The common side effects are drowsiness, uncontrollable movements, restlessness and weakness. Do not drive or handle any machines that require mental focus.

HOW PERINORM WORKS

PERINORM works by blocking a natural substance (dopamine) in the brain that controls vomiting and helps to speed the movement of food through the stomach and intestines, by stimulating the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take PERINORM exactly as your doctor has told you. Swallow as a whole with plenty of water and do not crush or chew.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Drowsiness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take naps and give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. ORS also can be used to prevent dehydration.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
PERINORM should be used with caution during pregnancy. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before giving it to you. Consult your doctor for advice.

BREASTFEEDING
PERINORM is not recommended if you are breast-feeding because it may passes into breast milk and may affect your baby. Consult your doctor for advice.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or handle any machines if you experience drowsiness, dizziness or having uncontrollable twitching, jerking or writhing movements and unusual muscle tone causing distortion of the body or vision problems.

ALCOHOL
Alcohol should not be consumed during treatment with PERINORM because it may increase the sedative effects.

KIDNEY
PERINORM should be used with caution in patients suffering from kidney diseases, if needed dose will be adjusted accordingly. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
PERINORM should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Metoclopramide.

HEART DISEASE
PERINORM should be used with caution in patients with abnormal heart beats. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Tell your physician before taking this medicine, if you have or had,

Bleeding, obstruction, tear in your stomach
Tumour of the adrenal gland
Involuntary muscle spasms
Epilepsy
Parkinson’s disease
Abnormal blood pigment levels or NADH cytochrome-b5 deficiency
Problems with the levels of salts in blood
Neurological problems

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

Levodopa (treats Parkinson’s disease)
Anticholinergics (relieves stomach cramps or spasms)
Morphine derivatives (treats severe pain)
Sedative medicines
Medicines used for mental health problems
Digoxin (treats heart failure)
Cyclosporine (treats certain problems with the immune system)
Mivacurium, suxamethonium (used to relax muscles)
Fluoxetine and paroxetine (treats depression)
