Pacitane Tablet (Trihexyphenidyl 2mg)

INTRODUCTION

PACITANE 2MG contain Trihexyphenidyl which belongs to a group of medicine called anticholinergics. It is used to treat Parkinson’s disease. It helps by improving muscle control and reducing stiffness thus restoring the natural movement. It can also be used to treat movement disorders (extreme restlessness, involuntary movements, or muscle spasms) which may be caused by certain medicines.

Parkinson’s disease is a disorder of brain that leads to shaking, stiffness and difficulty with walking, balance and coordination. It may get worse overtime leading to difficulty in walking and talking. They may also have mental and behavioural changes, sleep problems, depression, memory difficulties, and fatigue. PACITANE 2MG works by decreasing the activity of a chemical messenger in the brain which reduce stiffness and improves muscle control.

The common side effects are dryness of mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, nervousness. Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine since it may cause blurred vision or dizziness. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

HOW PACITANE 2MG WORKS

PACITANE 2MG works by decreasing the activity of a chemical messenger such as acetylcholine in the brain which reduce stiffness and improves muscle control.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take PACITANE 2MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken before or after food. Try to take this medicine at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation:

Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Nausea and vomiting:

Try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

Fever:

Drink plenty of fluids and water. Avoid taking cold baths or showers.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
PACITANE 2MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
PACITANE 2MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine since it may cause blurred vision or dizziness.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with PACITANE 2MG.

KIDNEY
PACITANE 2MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
PACITANE 2MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take PACITANE 2MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Trihexyphenidyl or any other ingredients in this medicine.

HEART DISEASE
PACITANE 2MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,

Have glaucoma
Have prostate problems
Have trouble passing urine
Have a stomach ulcer or suffer from severe heartburn or acid indigestion or any other digestive disorders
Suffer from a condition called myasthenia gravis
Suffer from tardive dyskinesia (unusual movement of the face and tongue)
Are elderly or under the age of 21

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor if you are taking,

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors such as moclobemide, tranylcypromine or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline (used to treat depression)
Phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, thioridazine or clozapine (used to treat mental illness)
Antihistamines (used to treat allergies)
Disopyramide (used to treat irregular heartbeat)
Levodopa (used to treat parkinson’s disease)
Amantadine (used to treat viral infections)
Painkiller such as nefopam (used to treat pain)
Metoclopramide or domperidone
Parasympathomimetics such as neostigmine, bethanechol (used to treat urinary retention)
