Omcef 200 Tablet (Cefixime 200mg)

Description

Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet is an antibacterial medication that consists of Cefixime and Ofloxacin. It is used for the treatment of typhoid fever and urinary tract infections. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses. This tablet kills the bacteria and stops their further growth.

Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet can cause some side effects of this medicine are diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist. Avoid any activity that requires concentration as Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to it. It is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age.

Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet can be taken with or without food. Once the antibiotic treatment is started, it is recommended to finish the entire course of treatment to prevent antibiotic resistance. Avoid taking any dairy product like milk with Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet as they can interfere with its absorption.

Typhoid fever
Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella Typhi. This bacteria is spread through contaminated food or water by a human carrier. Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet is used to treat typhoid fever. Symptoms may include high fever, loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, etc.
Urinary Tract Infection
An infection in any part of your urinary system (kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra) is called a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTIs are the most common infections in humans and women are at greater risk of getting this infection. UTIs are caused by bacteria and in some cases, viruses or fungi. Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet is used to treat urinary tract infections caused by bacteria.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid taking Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet if you are previously allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Tendinitis or tendon rupture
Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet can cause muscle damage especially in old age. Do not use Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet if you have tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or tendon rupture (a partial or complete tear of the tendon- the tissue that connects muscle to bone).
Myasthenia gravis
Myasthenia gravis is a skeletal muscle weakness condition characterized by severe weakness of any of the muscles under your voluntary control, including the arms and legs. Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet should be avoided if you have myasthenia gravis because it may worsen your condition.

Warnings

Warnings for special population
Pregnancy
Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet is not recommended to use in pregnancy as this medicine may affect the developing joints of your foetus. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine if the benefits outweigh the risks.
Breast-feeding
Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet is not recommended to use in breastfeeding as it may harm your infant. Consult your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine if the benefits outweigh the risks. If this medicine is used the baby should be observed for symptoms like diarrhoea or yeast infections.
General warnings
Antibiotic resistance
Finish your entire course of treatment with Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet, even if the condition gets better to avoid antibiotic resistance (the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, consult your doctor.
Driving or operating machines
Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet may cause dizziness, confusion, or fits in some people. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine.
Photosensitivity
Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet may make you more sensitive to sunlight or tanning lights. You may have to use sunscreens or wear protective clothing to avoid adverse reactions while going out after taking this medicine.
Diarrhoea
Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Get emergency medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody.

Dosage

Missed Dose
If you forget to take a dose of Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.
Overdose
Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet.

Interactions

General Instructions

Take Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet with or without food. Never take more than the prescribed dose.

Do not take antacids within 2 hours of taking Omcef (200/200 mg) Tablet as they affect its absorption.
