Oflox Eye/Ear Drop (Ofloxacin 0.3%)

Description

Oflox Eye/Ear Drops is an antibiotic medicine that contains Ofloxacin. It is used to treat eyes and ear infections. As eye drops, it treats infection of the cornea (a transparent layer that covers the front part of the eye) and conjunctivitis (pink eye) caused by bacteria. As ear drops, it treats outer and middle ear bacterial infections. It stops the growth and multiplication of bacteria that cause infection.

Oflox Eye/Ear Drops may cause side effects like irritation, redness, itching of eyes and ears, watery eyes, etc. These side effects are temporary and resolve within a few days after the treatment. This medicine may cause a visual disturbance. Avoid driving vehicles after using this medicine. Consult your doctor if these side effects get worsen. Avoid using Oflox Eye/Ear Drops if you are allergic to it.

Oflox Eye/Ear Drops is a prescription medicine. Wash your hands properly before administering this medicine. Tilt your head back slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper close to your eye and squeeze the dropper so that a drop falls in the pocket. Close your eyes for 2 to 3 minutes and repeat the same for the next dose. For ear drops, tilt your head sideways and squeeze the dropper to put drops inside your ear.

Oflox Eye/Ear Drops is not recommended for use in children below 1 year of age. Do not use contact lenses during the treatment as they can increase the infection severity. Inform your doctor about your current medicines and medical conditions before using this medicine. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor.

What is it prescribed for?
Bacterial Conjunctivitis
Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) is a bacterial eye infection affecting the conjunctiva (a clear tissue covering the white part of your eye and lines the inside of the eyelid). This infection can easily spread by direct or indirect contact with an infected person. It is more common in children and can be treated quickly in a couple of days. Oflox Eye/Ear Drops is used in the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis.
Corneal Ulcers
At the front of your eye is a transparent layer of tissue called the cornea that allows light to enter your eye. A corneal ulcer is a small ulcer of the cornea, that occurs from an infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. More often it occurs in contact lens wearers. A small scratch, scrape or cut on the cornea caused by wearing contact lenses for a long duration can cause infection. Oflox Eye/Ear Drops is used in the treatment of corneal ulcers caused by bacteria.
Otitis Externa
Otitis externa or Swimmer’s ear is an infection in the ear canal, which connects the outside of the ear to the eardrum. Normally, earwax helps to protect your ear canal from infection. Putting fingers, cotton swabs or other objects to clean your ears, can rub away the earwax or scratch your skin. This allows germs to grow and leads to infection. Oflox Eye/Ear Drops is used for the treatment of otitis externa caused by bacteria.
Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media
Chronic suppurative otitis media is an infection of the middle ear usually caused by an ear injury or blockage of the eustachian tube (a narrow tube that connects the middle ear and the back of the nose). Oflox Eye/Ear Drops is used for the treatment of chronic suppurative otitis media.
Acute otitis media
Acute otitis media (AOM), is an infection of the middle ear (the area behind the eardrum), common in infants and young children. Oflox Eye/Ear Drops is used to treat acute otitis media caused by bacteria.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid using Oflox Eye/Ear Drops if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as severe itching/redness in your eye or ear, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, eye or ear pain or irritation.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Do not skip any dose of Oflox Eye/Ear Drops. If you forget to administer a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If your next dose time is near, skip the missed dose and take your next scheduled dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.
Overdose
Never instil more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Oflox Eye/Ear Drops.

General Instructions

Use Oflox Eye/Ear Drops as directed by your doctor. Do not touch your eyes without washing your hands.

Avoid sharing items like eyeglasses, contact lenses, pillows, towels, clothes, eye or face makeup when you are infected.

Use these eye/ear drops at around the same time daily for the ease of remembering. Ensure that the treatment course is completed.

Maintain caution while driving vehicles as Oflox Eye/Ear Drops may cause short term visual disturbances.
