INTRODUCTION
MUCINAC 600MG contains Acetyl Cysteine which belongs to the group of medicines called Mucolytics. It is used in adults to treat acute airway diseases such as bronchitis (inflammation of the lining of bronchial tubes which carries air to the lungs), emphysema (disorder affecting the alveoli (tiny air sacs) of the lungs), mucoviscidosis (inherited life-threatening disorder that damages the lungs and digestive system) and bronchiectasis (condition in which the lung airways become damaged and making it hard to clear the mucus).
MUCINAC 600MG is not recommended for use in patients who are allergic to acetylcysteine. It is also not recommended for use in patients with bronchial asthma. Before taking MUCINAC 600MG, inform your doctor if you have stomach ulcers, liver diseases (such as non-alcoholic fatty acid disease) and chronic kidney disease.
It should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women only if it is clearly advised by the doctor. MUCINAC 600MG is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 18 years of age) and it should be used with caution in elderly patients.
The most common side effects associated with the use of MUCINAC 600MG are nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect worsens.
USES OF MUCINAC 600MG
Used in adults:
- To treat airway diseases (such as bronchitis, emphysema, mucoviscidosis and bronchiectasis)
HOW MUCINAC 600MG WORKS
MUCINAC 600MG works by enhancing airway secretions and mucociliary function (a defence mechanism of lungs that promote movement and removal of excess mucus) which causes the mucus (phlegm) to become less sticky resulting in its easy removal through cough, thus helps in treating the airway diseases.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take MUCINAC 600MG as advised by your physician. Dissolve the medicine in half a glass of water and drink the solution immediately. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF MUCINAC 600MG
COMMON
- Nausea
- Vomiting
UNCOMMON
- Signs of hypersensitivity reaction (immune response to an allergen or antigen) such as shortness of breath, tightness of chest, cough, itching, rashes and pounding heartrate
- Headache
- Ringing in the ears
- Inflamed and sore mouth
- Diarrhoea
- Fever
- Low blood pressure
- Abdominal pain
RARE
- Signs of bronchospasm (tightening of airways in lungs) such as shortness of breath
- Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath or breathlessness
- Impaired indigestion with symptoms of fullness in upper abdomen, gastric pain, belching, nausea and heartburn
Stop taking MUCINAC 600MG and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Signs of shock (sudden and severe drop in blood pressure) such as paleness, restlessness, weak pulse, clammy skin and decreased consciousness
- Signs of angioedema (sudden fluid accumulation in the skin and mucous membrane) such as swelling of the lips, throat or tongue, difficulty while breathing, itching and skin rash
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea and vomiting:
Take MUCINAC 600MG with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluids such as water. Avoid eating high-fat or spicy foods. Do not consume any medicine on your own to treat diarrhoea without consulting your doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller meals more frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, consult your doctor.
Headache:
Drink ample amount of water. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

BREASTFEEDING

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
MUCINAC 600MG is not likely to affect your abilities to drive or use machines.
KIDNEY
MUCINAC 600MG should be used with caution in patients with chronic kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
LIVER
MUCINAC 600MG should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases such non-alcoholic fatty acid disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
MUCINAC 600MG is not recommended for use in patients who are allergic to acetylcysteine or any other ingredients of this medicine.
LUNGS
MUCINAC 600MG is not recommended for use in patients with lung diseases such as bronchial asthma. Consult your doctor before taking it.
OTHERS
Others
Before taking MUCINAC 600MG, inform your doctor if you:
- Had or have ulcers in the stomach
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug Interactions
Before taking MUCINAC 600MG, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Cough suppressants (medicines used to suppress cough reflex) Ex. benzonatate
- Nitroglycerin (used to treat angina pectoris)
- Activated charcoal (used to treat traveller’s diarrhoea)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of MUCINAC 600MG, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage are nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
