Metagard Tablet (Trimetazidine 20mg)

INTRODUCTION

METAGARD contain Trimetazidine which belongs to a group of medicine called pFOX (Partial fatty acid oxidation) inhibitors. This medicine is used in combination with other medicines to treat angina pectoris (chest pain caused by coronary disease) in adults. Heart receives reduced oxygen supply during an episode of angina and this medicine protects the heart cells during this condition.

Angina pectoris is a condition marked by severe pain in the chest, often also spreading to the shoulders, arms, and neck, owing to an inadequate blood supply to the heart. Angina is a symptom of coronary artery disease. METAGARD works by shifting its metabolism from fats to glucose, thus decreasing the oxygen requirement of the heart. As a result, the heart works more efficiently. Along with this medication, quitting smoking, cutting down alcohol intake, eating well, taking regular exercise, and managing stress improves the health of your heart.

The common side effects are dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, rash, itching, hives, and feeling of weakness. This medicine strictly not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

HOW METAGARD WORKS

METAGARD works by decreases the oxygen requirement of the heart by shifting its metabolism from fats to glucose. As a result, the heart works more efficiently.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take METAGARD exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. Try to take this medicine at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.

Abdominal pain:

Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly and smaller and frequent meals. Applying a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lot of fluids, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines without consulting to a doctor.

Nausea and vomiting:

Try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
METAGARD is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
METAGARD is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine as it may cause dizziness and drowsiness.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with METAGARD.

KIDNEY
METAGARD is not recommended in patients with active kidney diseases. Before taking, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

LIVER
METAGARD should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take METAGARD if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Trimetazidine or any other ingredients in this medicine.

HEART DISEASE
METAGARD should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,

Parkinson disease: disease of the brain affecting movement (trembling, rigid posture, slow movements and a shuffling, unbalanced walk)

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you use, including prescription and non-prescription medicines and herbal supplements.
