About Meftal-Forte Tablet
Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s belongs to a group of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID’s) used for the treatment of pain, inflammation, migraine headache, period pain, heavy bleeding during periods, muscle pain, tooth pain, joint pain, pain after surgery, ear pain, fever, flu, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Pain is a symptom triggered by the nervous system, causing uncomfortable sensations in the body.
Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s is a combination of two drugs, namely: Mefenamic acid and Paracetamol. Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s blocks the effect of a chemical messenger known as cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzyme that makes other chemical prostaglandins (PG). By blocking the effect of COX enzymes, lesser PGs are produced. This helps in reducing mild to moderate pain and inflammation at the injured or damaged site.
You can take Meftal-Tablet 10’s with or without food. Take Meftal-Tablet 10’s as prescribed. You are advised to take Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. You may experience certain common side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, indigestion, heartburn, and diarrhoea in some cases. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.
Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke. So, if you have had any recent heart surgery, do not take Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s. Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s increases the chances of stomach ulcers and bleeding. Do not take Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless prescribed. Meftal-Tablet 10’s may cause dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s is not recommended for children as the safety have not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol, and Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s as it could lead to increased dizziness and increase stomach bleeding risk. Drug Warnings
Do not take Meftal-Tablet 10’s if you are allergic to any of its contents; if you have severe heart, kidney or liver failure, and have suffered bleeding problems such as bleeding from stomach or bowels while taking any pain killers or having peptic ulcers or inflammatory bowel disease. Meftal-Tablet 10’s can increase the risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of stomach and intestines. Inform your doctor before taking Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s if you have high blood pressure, heart problems, high cholesterol, dehydration, asthma, liver and kidney problems. Do not take Meftal- Tablet 10’s if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless prescribed. Meftal-Tablet 10’s may cause dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s is not recommended for children as the safety have not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol, and Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s as it could lead to increased dizziness and increase stomach bleeding risk. Stop taking MeftalTablet 10’s and consult your doctor immediately if you have stomach pain or any signs of bleeding in intestine or stomach such as blood in stools. Do not take any other NSAID’s for pain relief along with Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s unless prescribed by the doctor.
Drug Interactions
Drug-Drug Interactions: Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s may have interaction with pain killers (aspirin, ibuprofen, celecoxib, diclofenac, naproxen), anti-gout (probenecid), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine, tacrolimus), anticoagulants (warfarin, heparin), anti-rheumatoid (methotrexate), anti-HIV (zidovudine), anti-depressant (duloxetine, lithium, fluoxetine, sertraline), and steroid medication (mifepristone), anti-emetic (metoclopramide, domperidone), anti-cancer (imatinib), and bile acid sequestrants (cholestyramine).
Food-Drug Interactions: Avoid alcohol consumption while taking MeftalTablet 10’s as it might cause increased dizziness and risk of stomach bleeding.
Drug-Disease Interactions: Meftal-Forte Tablet 10’s may have interactions with peptic ulcers, bleeding disorders, asthma, fluid retention, gastrointestinal toxicity, rash, renal toxicity, thrombosis, anaemia, heart failure, liver toxicity, high blood pressure, platelet aggregation inhibition, and hyperkalemia (high potassium levels).
